Sol De Mexico — Restaurant in Mukwonago

I’ve heard great things about this place, but I went there for lunch today and was pretty disappointed. Our waitress was not friendly. She just dropped the menus on our tables and asked what we wanted to drink. Our table was dirty and the tables around us were as well. When we got there it was not busy at all so they could have been cleaned. When we got our food my husband had a ton of lettuce on his taco and very little protein. My shrimp taco seemed fine at first but then I noticed one wasn’t deveined. I saw another one and then another. When I actually opened up and looked in the tacos I’m pretty sure almost all of it was like that. That’s just super gross. I was going to ask to switch my tacos for something else but after waiting 10 mins for our server she never came to check on us so we had to wave her to our table. By that time my husband was done with what he ate and I was done with my rice and beans so I just asked her to remove the tacos from my bill since I ate my sides, and showed her that it wasn’t just a shrimp or two that had that issue. Decor reminded me of a 1980 McDonald’s theme with burnt orange and gold booths - was a wacky cafeteria feel

Waiter was nice $3 for a bottled coke - not bad however $14 for a pre mixed margarita! We asked for petron only - they can’t do it they told us after we complained - they gave us the pre mixed passing it off as a freshly made Perron one …to fix it we Ordered a shot to go in $8. So a $21 machine mixed margarita !

Warning - They just put sour cream on the food without asking - no place does this. Usually it’s on the side. I asked the waitress to remake my tostada - only thing they put sour cream on - she was like did you tell them ? I was like no who does that ?

The food portions are good and they have flavorful cheese which was nice. Chips and salsa come with the meal and were good

Overall it was $56 for two combo dinners a bottled coke and a margarita with an extra shot - seemed steep for the ambience and a so so restaurant

Oh they also charge you for using a credit card which they do not tell you - it just shows up on your receipt. I had cash but didn’t know.

You know you like a place and frequent it so much that when you return the owner greets you by your first name. Yes, we have been coming here for close to ten years now. We have seen the owners children grow up, help out, go to college and return home after graduation.

Why do we return so often? That's easy! Because of the FOOD! The margaritas, and friendly atmosphere. Jose and family are always there ready to satisfy your curiosity into the Mexican cuisine.
