4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gale Street Inn Mundelein Have not been to Gale Street Inn since before the remodel so I’m guessing it’s been 5 years… maybe more?
New interior is very modern, upscale, clean. I miss the old lodge feel personally. This felt a little uncomfortable to us. The salad bar is gone too which through covid I’m sure that was unused/wasted space.
Made my reservations though my credit cards website that promotes restaurants that additional points are offered. The reservation system asked specifics such as if a special occasion is being celebrated, allergies of any guests in your party, choice of seating. Upon arrival my reservation was never looked up, we were just whisked into the dining room and seated. Our waitress had no idea we had a shellfish allergy or we were celebrating a birthday.
Waitress was really nice. All the staff was helpful. Our water was always full, plates cleared, checked on by both waitress and manager after we got our food.
We ordered and got our soup/salads pretty quickly. Then there was a lull. The dining room was maybe 1/3 full and only 2 tables had ordered right before us. All other tables from what we could see had gotten their food. Suddenly the waitress comes by asking if we needed more drinks. We ordered more pop and she left. 5 minutes later another lady comes and asks if we needed anything while we waited. We said we had ordered more pop but our waitress hadn’t brought them yet. Waitress returned 5 minutes after that to tell us the kitchen had gotten “a little behind” and asked again if we needed anything. We said “just the drinks we ordered earlier” She said “sure no problem” and brought them immediately. Either the kitchen got several to go orders or the waitress didn’t put in our order because we finally got our meal another few minutes after all that. When no other orders are coming out of the kitchen for a good amount of time…. You just kind of wonder what really happened.
Food was meh… my mashed potatoes and baked French onion soup were delicious but the steak… the part I paid $67 for, could have done better with a stick and cooked over a mulch fire in a field. No seasoning. No crust. Seriously just lacking.
Restaurant was clean. Parking lot is huge. Restaurant is easy to find.
Unfortunately I don’t see us going back. Our total for 2 adults and a teenager who got a $10 kids meal with tip $175. — eating dinner with beloved family♥ at...
Read moreI grew up in Chicago and have been going to the Chicago Gale Street Inn for over 30yrs. Since I live out in the burbs I decided to come to this location in hopes of reliving my Chicago times here and those amazing ribs. There are MANY differences at this location and not for the better.
First issue was a reservation made at a specific time in which they overbooked the time by many people. We still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated and then got seated in the bar not the dining room. Reservations should have priority seating over walk-ins.
Second issue was the menu. It's VERY different than the Chicago menu. It's half the size, they have half the amount of entrees and appetizers than their Chicago location which makes no sense. That's my fault for not looking beforehand but it's the same exact restaurant, 2 different locations, you should have the same exact food.
3rd issue was the prices. They were higher priced than the same exact items at the Chicago location. My relative was dining at the Chicago location at the same exact time and day and we compared the menu, they were able to order Rib combos with seafood or other items and this location, no combos. More pasta options, different burgers, just more items all around. The Ribs cost more in Mundelein as well as every other item they shared together. I feel they overcharge here cause it's the suburbs and people have more money? No we don't have more money I'm sorry, food doesn't cost more than the city, it should be the opposite and more expensive in Chicago over this location.
4th issue was the value and quality of the food. For the price, extremely extremely overpriced. The only Ribeye steak was a bone in 20oz for $75. What? The Chicago location on the same holiday night had a $44 boneless ribeye. The ribeye at this place was within $10 of a Gibsons Chicago Cut Ribeye that's 10000xs better quality. Ours was definitely not a prime cut it was cooked medium and still tough. This isn't a prime steakhouse by any means. ONLY the steaks come with a soup or salad and 1 side. All other entrees come with only 1 small side. Side salad is $10, side of soup is $10. Prices are outrageous. So many other good steak options that come with sides and a salad and cost 30$ less in the area.
I wanted to love this place so much but I'd rather drive 1hr to the Chicago location with more menu options and...
Read moreThis is the second time we've eaten at The Gale Street Inn. The first time was really good. Everything was fresh and cooked to order.
BUT, something happened to their quality over the past 6 months; everything went way down - there were only 15 other people in the restaurant, so you would have thought that the service would have been great - nope. It was extremely slow.
When we got our salads, they weren't fresh at all. Parts of my lettuce were brown and Wilted - because it was old lettuce. the cucumbers were translucent, slimey and wilted. I had a couple bites after pulling out as much as I could to try and salvage some of it. After 3 bites, I set it aside.
The bread was great! Hot /Fresh! We asked for some more bread and was told they woud bring it right out - It never came
When we ordered our meal, we asked if The Mashed potatoes had garlic in them. Our waiter said - "a very little bit for flavor". I think she needs her tastebuds fixed. When they came, my wife took one bite and gagged. She said it was horrible. WAY Too much garlic. She tried a couple other bites and couldn't eat them. Most mashed potatoes come out white and fluffy. These came out lookly like they had been sitting for a while. when the waitress came back to check on how everything was, we told her that she couldn't eat the mashed potatoes because of having too much garlic. She did swap it out for baked potato.
My fries were a bit over done, but I'm ok with that because I like Them to be a little crispy .
My steak was descent, had a good flavor and was cooked correctly. My wifes, was raw in the middle and couldn't finish it.
When I spend over $120.00 for a meal, I expect perfection! After all, Isn't that why we're being charged so much? when we pay $62 plus for one piece of meat, They are telling us that their food and service are Top Notch. well tonight, it was Nowhere close; it was more like a $20 meal and we were both extremely...
