Actually haven't been here in a couple years, but when we were here, it was BEAUTIFUL. The lake really kinda did sparkle like diamonds; the water was legit the cleanest lake water I've EVER seen. The sand beach was near-white and, dude, it was ALLL SAND — I mean, it didn't feel like you were walking through and sitting on pulverized concrete like it does when you're at, oh, Montrose beach maybe. But yeah, this was glorious! And no trash anywhere, either. I remember it also being quite a windy day and people had food and things, I was expecting stuff to be getting blown around, but people here were very conscious of their garbage it seemed. The beach area itself, however, was unfortunately super small. And while I perfectly understand paying to partake, particularly non-residents, there's still very little personal space once the beach reaches capacity, which happens quickly on a beautiful afternoon. They WERE denying people entry at the time we were there, and only letting people in as others were leaving, if that gives you any idea how small it actually is. We arrived early in the day when they opened and hardly anyone was there, so the first 2 hours were great. Overall though, we plan a visit there this year before the summer is through because if you enjoy the beach, swimming, gorgeous views, playing around in the sand like a kid again, and soaking up some Vitamin D just like we do, I'd make the effort to come early again and deal with the people who wind up within arms' each of my beach towel JUST because of how beautiful and clean this place is. For those interested, the lake itself also has a neat history that i recall. I can't quite it exactly, forgive me, but I believe it has something to do with it being here or forming during a dinosaur era. Gonna have to go look that one up...
Read moreThe family and I had a great time at Diamond Lake beach, aka Mundelein Park & Rec. It’s very nice to spend time at a laid-back beach that wasn’t overly crowded with plenty of life-guards on duty. The water was a bit smelly and the beach recently closed due to high bacteria counts which is one of the only reasons I am not giving a 5star review. The other is that we had to pay full-price for our 3yr old but since the full price is very affordable, it’s not too bad either. We really loved our afternoon playing in the sand the kids sure did love playing for hours in the water. Looking forward to...
Read moreI am a new resident to Mundelein. I gave this place one star due to the fact that I was there for the paddle boat was informed there was none available for the rest of the day by Julie. I still paid to go inside its a great place. I seen one paddle boat parked all the hours I was there and another used. I wonder if there is only two paddle boats in general? If so the website should not have incorrect...
