Rancho Viejo — Restaurant in Muscle Shoals

We visited for lunch and had the best meal. I ordered the chimichanga with strips of steak, it came with rice and beans and lettuce tomato sour cream and guacamole. My son ordered the California chicken burrito and it was massive. We also ordered Ala carte Chile rellanos and the food was excellent! Even the chips and salsa were good. The server was super friendly and on top of things. Excellent food, excellent service, highly recommend this place for yummy Mexican food. And I'm from California, so I know what good Mexican food tastes like 😉 **Visited a second time before leaving the area as we were just visiting. This time it was super busy, on a Saturday at lunchtime. I had a steak fajita burrito ($6.99), it was very good, highly recommend this. My son had a chicken burrito grande and it was that, grande, it was huge! He said it was delicious and so large he couldn't even finish it. I’ll start by saying I usually dine at a place 3 times before leaving a review. However, I will not be visiting this establishment a 3rd time. Dips are very watery, and beef is under seasoned, and by under seasoned I mean it taste like they just browned the beef and put it on the plate with nothing added. Wife’s chicken was inedible, too dry, and tasted almost solely of onion. My wife always orders extra shredded cheese on the side, instead they send out her taco salad with no cheese on the taco, EXCEPT, at the very side of the taco… Nice joke… Service was non existent. My wife asked the waiter, after he returned with our forgotten drinks, about extra cheese, he says “oh, yea” and walks off. I had to flag the waiter down to get a refill, and when he noticed me all he did was bring me a drink. He never checked on anyone else at the table. So when he brings my drink back I had to remind him to bring my wife’s cheese. My wife said that the best part of the meal was the store bought...

I'll start by saying the food itself was excellent.

Service on the other hand was pretty lackluster. Let me start by saying prior to our arrival myself along with the rest of my party had driven up from Orlando, FL. After 12 hours on the road we were all hungry.

We were seated immediately, which was a bit of a surprise for a Friday night. After about 10 minutes of waiting for somebody to come by and take our drink orders, we finally asked a lady who was bussing tables if they could track down our server, whom we still hasn't even seen. 5 minutes later our server comes with the customary chips and salsa, and takes our drink orders.

The food came out fast, and quality was excellent, and aside from being ignored for 15 minutes when we arrived the service wasn't bad, in fact the server really did try to make it up and was super friendly, but waiting 15 minutes to be acknowledged in a restaurant is unacceptable.
