Rick's Barbecue — Restaurant in Muscle Shoals

Now I want to tell everyone, I love to eat and one of my favorite foods is bbq. Now I will also tell you that I deliver everyday so I see restaurants and sometimes I try them out. Now I will also tell you that I take in the whole experience, the atmosphere and how clean things are kept. When I first walked into Rick's, I could smell the vinegar they used in there sauce. Some like it and some don't. I wanted to taste for myself so I ordered a number 1. The sandwich had plenty of bbq and just a thin layer of Cole slaw. Some people like it, I myself love it. It just wasn't enough on the sandwich. Then I will say the bbq seemed under seasoned. I added some mild sauce and some hot sauce, and let me tell you,I'm not impressed with the bbq sauce they have. I want a sauce thats thick and hardy, something with a heat aftertaste if you will. This sauce was a bit thin and weak. Did the sandwich taste ok you ask? Yes it tasted good but they need a signature taste, it didn't really stand out. And like I said, I want a thick sauce that will roar with flavor. It was a good lunch ,the seasoned fries needed more seasoning but they were good. Now the restaurant was kept very clean and when I entered the restroom it was clean and it passed the sniff test. Overall I think it could be a winning chain but they need to work on a signature taste. That's my rock bottom ...

I just tried Rick's out last night for the first time. This was a very clean restaurant and the bathroom was also very clean and stocked. The outside was clean the area safe and well lit and the building attractive. I noticed they had a drive through as well. I got the nachos with pork and a pork sandwich with mayonnaise slaw on it. I followed that up with some ice cream that the manager talked me into trying. First: The ice cream was amazing. I've been eating ice cream all my life just like all of you and I have an ice cream truck so I have tried it all...well I had tried it all I thought until I tried Rick's flavored ice creams. You simply must try these. Amazing. Second: The bbq sandwich was very good. I felt it was weak (small) on the pork portion, soI tasted the bun more than I cared to. The nachos were also good but generic. They had a decent portion of pork and good fresh toppings but the cheese taste no better/worse than gas station nachos. I would suggest a ro-tel cheese instead and it would sell out everyday. While I was there a customer highly recommended their ribs which I shall try next time I'm there and let you know how they were. This will be my BBQ place for the Shoals/Florence area from now on. The barbecue was basically pulled pork but it was a lot of it and it tasted good it just didn't have any kind of barbecue at all flavor and it was supposed to have vinegar coleslaw on it but I didn't see any it did have pickles on it. It was a nice great big sandwich and it tasted good but I didn't see any coleslaw are any barbecue flavor per se. But it was good. I had baked beans and they were good better than the average can baked beans they weren't bad at all. And I had baked potato salad and that was really good. I just wonder if it's the leftover baked potatoes they sell that have bacon and stuff in them lol but it was good was actually some of the best fast food I've had in a long time.
