Let me tell you about Papa Joe's. I recently moved to American Canyon, just outside of Napa about a little less than a year ago. I've tried tons of different Pizza out here, specifically trying to find a independent or hole in the wall style location. While I was impressed with some of the chains out here such as Mountain Mike's, and Pizza Guys, which I'd happily give a 3 out of 5 for in the chain business, nothing comes close to an independent and I needed something special. I was turned onto Papa Joe's by a local who I work with that has lived in Napa for nearly 20 years. If you're looking for what I would call a football pizza, as in a pizza that you could order on a Monday night or a Sunday afternoon while watching all of the games this should be your go-to. Without asking for extra cheese they tend to put on a generous amount, all of their toppings that I have tried have been exceptional and top quality. When you ask for something well done it's always well done, and even without asking it's baked incredibly well. They're also rather famous for their ranch dressing which they make in house, you're going to want to buy the large side of it to go along with all of your crust. I assure you it's worth it. I've not tried much other than the pizza there and I think I had ordered an appetizer before, so I can't speak too much on their sides and salads but the pizza is of exceptional quality. Napa is known for a lot of its food, but I feel that it hurts in terms of pizza that you can just grab and go whenever, and I really would love to see a place that offers pizza by the slice that isn't just for lunch. So for an independent place like this to be around I count myself lucky, because while they only do lunch slices, whenever I'm in need for a full size pie I know I'm going to get something not only worth my money, but incredibly tasty. Do yourself a favor and go to Papa Joe's when you're looking for an everyday pizza in Napa but don't want some kind of fancy wood fired...
Read moreDelivery, Papa Joe's is a must have for all residents of Napa. Some of us have been ordering this pizza since days spent at home sick during elementary school, it isn't till you get older that you try loads of other pizza spots from other towns, cities, and countries. Papa Joe's still stands apart. My guess is that their ovens must be really unique.
My go to order is one my cousin turned me onto a while ago, pepperoni, jalapeno, and pineapple pizza. "Burn it" style. There is nothing else that hits my taste buds the same (And yes I'll post pictures as well). I've been to 30+ counties including Italy and while ever pizza in every location can have its own unique qualities that make it special, I was blown away by the simple fact that no matter what I tried I would still crave my lil pizza place back home if not the same amount even more so now. It's just really really unique pizza.
Whenever someone is visiting from out of town they always have that look in their eyes excited to hear about what we are eating later, and without fail every time I say “of course we'll get Papa Joe's later.” Haha.
I had a group of Canadians come visit recently and we did a fun wager on whether or not Papa Joe's would beat out the top pizza place in Vancouver and aside from one holdout it was widely embraced as some of the best pizza they had ever had.
Usually when people come to visit and Napa is full of rich unique cuisine, you think the last take away will be a pizza place no bigger than a hole in the wall to blow minds the way it does. Do yourself a favor and try the pizza. Get it well-done or burn it. You'll thank me...
Read moreOrdered pizza so I wouldn’t have to cook after a long day of work. Pizza arrived after an hour with 2 sides of ranch which were ordered. Tipped the delivery person. Didn’t realized the ranch was literally delivered in the paper bag it came in until I sat down to put the meal on the table. As in, ranch dressing poured in a paper bag, plastic containers floating in ranch dressing. Ran outside to see if the driver was still there and he was gone. Called papa joe’s to let them know how the food arrived and that we’d like new ranch and wouldn’t be eating our pizza without it. We would have cold dinner by the time we would have our whole meal. We didn’t want a refund. Just new ranch. A young man answered the call and was trying to be helpful but didn’t have the authority to make any decisions. He was very nice and understanding. He put us on hold to get his manager. Renee Bassett came on the line and said the driver probably accidentally dropped the ranch. She didn’t apologize. She gave us 3 options, we could wait 45 minutes for new ranch. She would refund us $1. Or my favorite was, we could go pick up the ranch at papa joe’s ourselves.
We’ve been ordering papa joe’s since we were children, having grown up in Napa. With service like that we might as well order pizza elsewhere. If you’re too busy to rectify a mistake, than you’re too busy to serve your customers. Worse, ask your customer to rectify it for you! What Renee should have offered was a refund for our meal because the mistake cost us our dinner. Not to mention her rude attitude wasn’t tolerable. I would have been better off cooking...
