One star because there isn't a 1/2 star. Before we get to far I feel like I need to disclose that I have taken all of the Wilton cake decorating classes and that I have provided many great cakes for my friends and family including wedding cakes. I just want you to know that I know a thing or two about making cake.
I am going to break this up into customer service and the cake itself. I feel that these are 2 totally different items and should be considered differently.
The Cake.
The cake was torted with layers of what I assume was supposed to be custard but it tasted like regular old pudding to me. Now using custard/pudding is a great way to add moisture to your cake and if done correctly most people have no idea what is in the middle of their cake. That unfortunately was not the case this time. There was enough in there to call this a Boston Cream IMO. Too much moisture like this does stupid things to the texture of the cake especially right next to the pudding. Now there is a rubbery chewy thing going on and it is quite unpleasant.
For a specialty cake called "champagne cake" I would have expected something more elegant and with a lot better flavor. The Buttercream was rather gritty and to be honest I have never run across that in making hundreds of pounds of frosting. So I am guessing this might indicate that there is something added to the frosting other than flavor, butter, and thinning item such as milk or cream.
For the price of this cake I feel that It wasn't very well decorated and should have been much prettier For a boutique cake place the flavors should have been sock rocking The over all texture of everything should have been better
The service
Of course you can sell the best stuff in the world and if your customer service fails you stand to loose it all. I was only visiting Napa and of course for wine tours. But these are not regular wine tours most are off the beaten path and require a reservation. While out in the middle of no where, actually sitting down for a tasting we get called by the staff and told they are closing a half hour earlier and we need to come get the cake. What a huge impact to our schedule this is, you try getting 8 people out of a vineyard, paid up and back in a car to race back . Well we almost there but realized we were not going to make the time deadline so we called again and nicely asked if they would stay we were in route and almost there. They then demanded we bring cash. WHAT? Who has cash any more? But not only that they wanted exact change.
To me this whole ordeal was unreal. Never I have heard of staff closing early when they know they have a pick up and never has anyone changed policy and asked for cash.
Overall I can say that quite possibly it was a bad day for cake making and the customer service might just killed us ever wanting...
Read moreI live out of town I used to live in Napa and remembered buttercream as being a very good bakery we were having a wedding shower for my granddaughter in Napa it was a very elegant affair the colors were black and gold I ordered a champagne cake from butter cream I ordered white buttercream frosting black Writing with gold shadowing and multi colored Roses I am Attaching what I got I immediately called the bakery when the cake was delivered the girl who answered the phone was very kind and said call back on Tuesday we will take care of this I called back on Tuesday and and got a lady who was very rude she said I will take a message I will relate to the manager if she feels she needs to respond she will respond I could not believe that. I gave her the message told her about the cake sent her a picture of what I Received she called me today and said we will not refund your money we gave you what you wanted and that was it I told her the cake was ugly no one would have ordered such a horrible looking cake any seasond Baker would have Been alarmed. that there had to be an error in the ordering. They took my number when I ordered the cake they would not order a cake unless it was paid for in advance which I should have realized was a red flag but I went ahead and paid for it when I spoke with the woman I still don't know who she was but she answered the phone and she was very rude mumbled something and just hung up on me I will never order another cake from butter cream and I hope this review helps you if you have a special event Don't rely on them to get your order right. The cake I got looks like a bottle of Pepto bismo blew up on it the writing was black and gold.also wen cutting it the top kept falling of. Wen we were passing out cake by yhe time it got to the person the top plopped off and they got a top layer face down next to the...
Read moreCouldnt get anyone to answer the phone Wednesday so I drove across town to order a cake in person. I went out of my way to drive back over there to pick up the cake this morning. Get home, stick my finger in the icing. We ordered whipped cream, this is buttercream. I call and ask for a 50% discount because now I am going to have to buy some grocery store cake on the way to the birtbday party in Concord. They say no, demand I bring the cake back to be fixed and it will "only" take 15-20 minutes... ok well I dont have that kind of time to drive back over there amd wait etc etc. Roumd trip that will actually be AN HOUR. Wally says too bad, so sad. But, her manager can call me later. Phone rings 2 minutes later and the person that handed me the cake at the store is on the line to chew me out that they didnt do anything wrong and they always use buttercream on a themed cake. I say the kids wont eat buttercream and that the lady when I ordered the whipped cream should have explained that there would still be a significant amount of buttercream on it. We normally get a cake without decoration so how would I know that?!?! We have ordered from them every year for like 10 years and never had an issue. I am not a baker and if I was I would have made my own cake! To be treated as if a) I should be burdened even further by a cake they cant even reuse is INSANE and b) to be treated luke I should have the knowledgr of some.CIA trained pastry chef about frosting types is ridiculous. I didnt ask for a full refund, just 50%. No, according to them, I am the idiot and I should be the one running around for THEIR mistake. They could have made this right and I would be buying cake for 10+ more years. Instead we will go elsewhere and I will have already contacted the bank for a chargeback in the full amoumt instead of the half they could have...
