Church's Texas Chicken — Restaurant in National City

I was yelled at for asking for a free refill.

During previous visits, I encountered no problems getting free refills. In every visit, I would ask for one refill for a large sized cup. Just kindly ask, they'll ask you to remove the lid and then refill it for you.

On 08/16/23, as I walked up to the counter, I was immediately told, "No refills." (I didn't even ask yet. Just had the lid removed.) Baffled, when I asked for affirmation to check if I heard correctly, I was told, "NO REFILLS!" in a very aggressive manner three more times. She then offered to me as an alternative a "small plastic cup," to which she would fill with Coke Zero. Holding my large sized cup, I declined. Even while I was walking away, she got louder and louder, insisting on offering me the alternative.

While I don't mind not getting a "free refill" since nowhere does it say if you can or cannot (or if there is I cannot find it), HOW HARD IS IT TO KINDLY TELL A CUSTOMER THAT A CERTAIN SERVICE IS UNAVAILABLE!? WHY THE YELLING!?

The manager at this location caused a moral drop when I visited this location, and the manager was there. None of the employees are smiling and greeting guests with any resemblances of a smile. But every time I have been to this location when the manager isn't working, the employees are vibrant and smiling, working together smoothly as a team, talking positively, and simply working as a team. I and several other guests watched as the manager treated the employees as if they were stupid or as if what they the employees were doing was wrong to a point that the manager threw guest food to go order on to the counter making the guest who's order it was say aloud "what did I do to her were she's throwing my food" shaking his head. I work hard for my money and never want to go to a place where I really enjoy their food to be treated, like while are you coming in here and I don't feel like helping you. The food was okay as usual, but what made this drop to one star (should be zero) is the service. Never have I seen a cashier be so unprofessional (vivian). Instead of helping around the kitchen while I was deciding what to order. No, she was on her personal phone texting, I came up ready to order, and she did not attend to me. She kept her attention to her phone, and to make it a better score. I said what I want yet, she responded "uh huh..." When I put my hand down on the counter she then became attentive to me. She spoke in a low pitch that I had her repeat a few times. The "cooks" had many burn scars up and down their arms. I've seen other places providing their employees with longer gloves around deep frying oil. So sad to see crappy service in a small...
