Ok, Folks. We need to chat a bit about this wood fired pizza joint we were hipped onto in the awesome little town of Neosho, Missouri.

My work travels took me to Neosho this week. Of course I asked the hotel desk attendant for a good local place to eat. She immediately said “Sam’s Cellar” in the old town square.

A little while later we made our way to the old town square and found Sam’s. It is in a very old building on the corner dating back to the 1930’s. We opened the door and had to walk downstairs, hence “cellar.”

Immediately the aroma of pizza with a hint of oak smoke filled our senses. The dimly lit Cellar sported a full service bar, booths and high top tables. Historic photos adorned the original stone walls which were well lit.

We were greeted by Kyle, a friendly and bubbly server who seemed to genuinely enjoy her job at Sam’s.

The menu had much to offer including wings, pizza, burgers, sandwiches, salads and much much more.

We ordered the spinach/artichoke dip with pita chips and the meat lovers pizza.

The spinach/artichoke dip was, quite simply, the absolute best I’ve ever had! The pita chips were toasted in the wood oven which really brought out a great flavor.

We chose the meat lovers pizza which was 8 slices of wood fired deliciousness! The perfect amount of cheese and sauce. A sprinkle of crushed red pepper and it was perfect! NO ranch needed!

Dessert was a hot brownie with vanilla ice cream. Perfectly sweet and warm. The perfect way to end this magnificent meal!

Some of the best and brightest jewels are found in small and unassuming towns. Neosho certainly did not disappoint!

If you find yourself traveling up or down I-49 just south of Joplin, head east into Neosho and try Sam’s Cellar. Ask for Kyle and tell her Chris from Ft...

I really hate writing negative reviews but I had the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant a few weeks ago. Our waitress was incredibly rude and rolled her eyes at us multiple times just for coming in because it was an hour before close. We came in at 9pm on Thursday for ladies night happy hour drinks and appetizers that was supposed to be from 8-10pm. They were annoyed that we came in even though we were super nice and they told us to hurry up and order bc they’re shutting down the kitchen and then after we were done and asked for our ticket to pay, we noticed none of us got our discount that they advertise, so when we asked if we could get the discount applied, she rolled her eyes and very reluctantly applied the discount. Some of us didn’t even ask because it wasn’t even worth dealing with her being so rude. Also, it really felt like they purposely played the loudest most annoying songs to get us to leave. They would switch back and forth from the loudest heavy metal music to it’s a small world children’s music and it was so loud we could barely hear eachother talking across the table. All this to say we were sad to experience this because we love supporting local businesses and this used to be such...

This small, unique bar and brick-oven restaurant is located downstairs in the basement of an old corner shop on the downtown square. It has 4-5 high-top tables, 4 booths, and ample bar seating. TVs all around for entertainment. The walls are old stone and decorated with some interesting historic photos. They work hard to serve patrons and have a a reasonable menu variety of good food ranging from salads, sandwiches, wraps, and pizza. Standalone menu items are $8-$15. We may have caught them on a rough night as our food experience was lacking, but others we spoke with stated they enjoyed their food very much. Sam's Cellar came recommended by some locals and we met others coming in from Joplin. The wings were fairly good as buffalo, garlic-parmigian, and Thai. Unfortunately, the lemon-pepper boneless were too salty to eat, so we passed that back. Pizza was popular there, so we may have to try that if we return. The wait time on arrival was ~15 min or so with 2 couples ahead of us. The staff are friendly and turn the tables quickly. Worth a try for some quick food and cold drinks, and of course the temp and atmosphere is perfect being in a large...
