We just had lunch at Sea Glass Cafe. A wonderful restaurant that we have been going to for years. They just implemented a new menu with increased prices. We were also informed the military discount was reduced from 50% to 15%. We told our waitress we understood, as the times are hard for everyone. But we go out once a week to support the local restaurants. We both ordered off the lunch menu. I ordered The Kali with hash browns. When it came our waitress said “here’s the Kali” it had eggs and hollandaise sauce on it. I didn’t think it should but I thought maybe I read the menu wrong. So I ate it….mistakenly. It bothered me throughout the meal and finally got up and went and got a menu. When I looked it up I realized the waitress had brought me the “Kali Love Benedict”. So when I told her she said that because I ordered the hash browns she thought I wanted the breakfast and not the sandwich because hash browns are extra with the sandwich. I pointed out to her on the menu that hash browns are also offered as a side for sandwiches. She was surprised and just laughed. I asked her to deduct the extra $5 charged for the breakfast. She went and told the manager or owner and they said I had to pay for what I ate. I did but I feel they made a very poor decision. We know the restaurants are having a hard time due to the inflation ,but so are the consumers. If I had realized immediately that she had brought me the wrong meal she would have had to take it back and they would have had to make me the meal I ordered. They would have been out the total cost of the wrong meal as they would have had to throw it out for a total of $17. I was asking for the difference of $5 to be taken off my bill. Now they have two loyal customers left with a dissatisfied feeling. And not having plans to go back anytime soon. Not a very savvy...
Read moreI came to this spot back in May I think, when I was on business. I always try to find a good spot to eat, in every city I ended up going to, and always try to try something different. When I tell you I found a gem right here.
Where do I begin?! Firstly, let's talk about how this establishment is veteran owned. On top of that, how the actual owner is one unlike any other. You would never know who they are, because thru don't carry themselves in that way. They actually do work, and keep behind the scenes. They were so humble, and when I tell you, does a great job at getting delicious food, that's an understatement. This food was so flavorful, and I loved the fact that they had turkey bacon for those who aren't pork lovers. The eggs were just the way I wanted them, and when I tell you, they were like the only place that makes eggs the way I remember them growing up.
Secondly, they have a wide variation of coffee flavors. I loved the many options they had flavor wise, where they all were self-service. You could get unlimited coffee, although I'm not a coffee lover, I can appreciate them having this. I did try some because I was running low on fuel, and seeing how I had a long ride back home, I needed some caffeine 😴😄. Oh, they had flavored creamers and different sweetners.
Last but not least, I want to speak on the service. I had this amazing waitress, who was so attentive and friendly. I'm disappointed in myself that I waited this long to write the review, because in the process, I forgot her name. She was so easy to talk to, and was the one who allowed me to speak to the owner that day I was there. She was definitely great at what she did, and hope to see her again when I come back...
Read moreI can’t wait to try this place when I get to eat here. We waited 15 minutes (totally reasonable Sunday after church). Looking at the menu, I realized all the kids meals are $8.99 which includes a beverage, but not a premium beverage. Milk is a premium beverage and a couple dollars for a small and 3 something for a large. My girls were brought two large milks (not asked if they wanted large or small?). I ordered coffee, only to realize that my endless coffee was from a coffee bar. $3.79 for a cup of coffee. What kind of sit down restaurant doesn’t offer endless coffee anyway? The server came to take our order, to let us know they were out of biscuits, hash browns, corned beef hash and bacon. There’s like, 2 places in New Bern to even get corned beef hash and this is one of them. I really wanted to try it. The server was super gracious and understanding, letting us know that she totally understood if we didn’t want to stay, which we didn’t. She gave us the milks on the house which was kind and we tipped $5 anyway, but left and went to Baker’s Kitchen. The server did have a good explanation on the fact that Friday had been Saint Patrick’s Day and they sold a lot of corned beef hash then, but to run out of hash browns, bacon and biscuits?
I’ll be back to try the food because I can’t write a restaurant off without eating there, but I’ll be back with my enlisted husband to get their military discount. $18 for 2 kids meals, PLUS milk and $3.79 for coffee (which I would probably drink max 2 cups of) is a little...
