Have tried this place twice now over about 10 months, the 2nd time was better than the 1st. It's a neat concept as they converted a former newspaper building into a restaurant and bar that also offers a golf simulator and axe throwing. It's kind of hidden as it's front entrance and parking are not on the main road but kind of in back.
The 1st time we went was their grand opening and I found the ventilation to be a bit strong as it dried out my eyes, which was extra-challenging as they haven't been overly quick after placing your order to receipt of your food on either visit. However, I didn't have any issues with the vents on the 2nd visit. Service was pleasant and attentive on both visits.
For a non-meat eater, their menu is a tad limited. My wife really enjoys their Mediterranean Salad ($13.99), which is a substantial mix of romaine wedge, whipped feta, red onions, tomatoes, and an excessive amount of olives. She ordered it on both visits and said she would do so again. I tried their Hot Off the Press Double Smash ($16.49), but substituted for their black bean burger. It was OK, but definitely not worth the price tag. Also, the fries were subpar and reminded me of LJS. On the 2nd visit, they had a Friday special of Fish Sandwich ($9.99), which was a substantially better sandwich size-wise and absolutely a better value. The fries were still subpar.
We will still consider coming here as it's a nice option for meeting family between Indy and Richmond. I just wish that had more non-meat options or more reasonable prices. It also wouldn't hurt if they figured out how to serve fries more like 5 Arch Brewing Co. in...
Read moreLet me preface by saying: I really want to like this place. The ambiance seems upscale. But twice now, I've been seated in the MOST uncomfortable chairs, at crowded tiny tables, on the bar side. You get trampled and jostled by the staff and patrons, because it is so tight. Try sitting there for an hour, and you'll want to rethink your seating arrangement and un-cushioned chairs! The only other options seemed to be high tops, which are not ideal for elderly patrons. Need small booths.
The food has been...ok. It is expensive for what it is. Stingy portions (The sparse side of fries makes me wonder how expensive can a potato be!?). More flour tortilla than ingredients IN the breakfast burrito. My dining companion didn't realize there were even any eggs in the burrito!
In general: Nothing much out of ordinary, flavor-wise. I know we are in the "mid" Midwest. But maybe it is time to elevate the food to match the high prices.
For the prices, I don’t think it is too much to ask for a great experience including: clean and safe parking instead of by trash dumpsters in a potholed alley, a welcome greeting instead of an inept hostess, comfortable seating where you'd want to spend time and order another beer, and perhaps even food with amazing flavors combined with ample...
Read moreWhat a pleasant surprise tonight!! The hubs and I were looking for a place to eat around 2200 (10 p.m) as we are night shifters and tend to eat a late dinner. We found Ink and Ale to be open until midnight AND an open kitchen until close 🙌🙌 we arrived and were very pleasantly surprised to see acoustic live music under way!! Just loved it! The atmosphere was great and the food was VERY good! Our server, along with the manager (Jodha) were fun to chat with and very helpful with anything we were needing. Our other visits were during the early evening hours and were just as pleasant. We definitely appreciate having a nice place to go late in the evening without making a trip to Hamilton Towne Center for a nice experience. Nice job, Ink and Ale 🍺 👏 now, on a suggestion note....... I love key lime pie martinis along with blueberry martinis. It was a smidge disappointing that you do not serve those drinks. I totally understand it is a licensing thing. All the best to you and...
