Mr. G's is great food at a great price with a great atmosphere! You will not go wrong by getting lunch or dinner there! I definitely suggest a visit, especially if you're in from out of town!!! Even better if you like good Greek food. ^_^
I went to Mr. G's while staying at a nearby Holiday Inn on travel for work. I was not impressed by New London and in all honesty, I hadn't seen much in the way of food while driving around. I did a Google maps search of food near the hotel (which you likely have if you are reading this) and Mr. G's came up on the third page, after I rejected another place for a bad rating. It had a good rating (5 and 3 stars) and they said that there was parking, and there was. Boy am I glad I went!
The server was extremely friendly and she answered all of our questions regarding foods that we had not heard of as well as how they were prepared. She was very attentive and even snagged me an extra roll, which you simply must have! The food itself was filling, good and served in great proportions. We had the chicken and broccoli pasta dish, grape leaves, gyro, macaroni salad, the aforementioned amazing roll, and lemon cake made by the "Cake Lady". Well I don't know who the Cake Lady is, but her cake is simply amazing!!! If I wasn't so full I would have had the carrot cake and I can only imagine how it was. They also had good beer on tap. To top it off I went out of my way to tell the owner how good the food was (the server helped me get him, kicking butt yet again) and he geniunely seemed to appreciate it. Both me and my coworker couldn't remember the last time we ate this well and I travel enough that I eat out all over the US and in large amounts.
Simply a classy place that is...
Read moreMr. G's restaurant is an iconic staple of the town, and has delicious food Everytime we go when we are visiting friends in the area. A great neighborhood spot, and with delicious food options. I love their specialty pizzas, customizing a spinach feta pizza most recently. Crust is to die for, with perfectly crunchy yet supple crust with fancy toppings and so many amazing cheese options. Also a big fan of the Spinach salad that comes with bacon and blue cheese, as it is a good large portion and super fresh and delicious. We split the chicken quesadilla to start, and honestly it was the best quesadilla I have had in a whil. Thick and cheesy, with three large triangles as big as my big hands folded over, precut, and perfectly crisped with dripping gooey cheese WITH nacho chips.
(And they are able to accommodate allergies with ease in the kitchen, adjusting things to make sure you get what you need!)
To top off the evening always ask for their dessert list, which rotates. The "cake lady" brings in fresh bakery items and i am a fan of the coconut cake, while my partner loves the cheesecake.
This is a local joint with class - bar in the front, dining in the back, with classy leather booths that transport you to a high end restaurant in NYC or Boston yet without the $$$$.
Oh and the drinks are tasty too, with a full bar and lots of options - we always have a few!
Service is quick depending on the night and always professional and accommodating, and the team is super friendly to all.
If you are stopping through New London, skip the waterfront spots marketed to tourists by the ferries and find yourself with locals at Mr. G's for an authentic and delicious meal without the attitude or fuss....
Read moreMy wife and I ordered from here through doordash since we are outside of their delivery area. An item from our order was missing when the food was delivered. My wife called the restaurant and let them know that something was missing. Whoever she spoke to checked and admitted that they messed up and it wasn’t the fault of doordash. He asked where we were at then told her that he didn’t have any drivers to go there for our missing item. Not that he didn’t have any drivers just none that could make this situation right and bring us our missing food. He then told her that she could go through the app to get a refund. I understand that we can get a refund for our missing food but what bothers me is that this seems to be the norm for restaurants in this area... when the restaurant if at fault the customer is inconvenienced even more to fix the problem. Why couldn’t they spare a driver to bring our food that they forgot? Why do we have to do even more work to get a refund for their mess up? The food that we did get wasn’t good enough to go back there when taking into consideration the lack of care or ownership...
