I have had Bistro Daisy on my list of restaurants to try for the longest time, and I finally got to experience why it’s so highly recommended. Walking into the restaurant, there is no mistaking that you are in an authentic New Orleans building. The transoms, doorknobs, decorative fireplace, and crown molding are stunning yet cozy, making you feel at home but fancy at the same time.
Bistro Daisy is owned by a husband and wife who named the restaurant after their precious daughter. You can see her pictures as you walk up to the podium.
The warm greeting sets the tone for what’s to come. To say the service is impeccable would be an understatement. It felt like the staff had been professionally trained at a fine dining institution, yet they were kind, engaging and incredibly knowledgeable about the food. I had a ton of questions because everything on the menu looked amazing, and I needed help deciding.
Luckily, we went with another couple with whom we are close, so I got to try eight different dishes (four appetizers and four entrees), not including the homemade desserts. Be careful not to overindulge in the perfection of the bread and butter as you will want to save room for the rest of the meal. That being said, you will likely end up using your bread to sop up every last morsel on your plate, which is exactly what I did with my gulf oyster appetizer. My husband’s mirliton was delicious- and I don’t even care for mirliton. The warm spinach salad and escargot were also fabulous.
I chose the filet after talking it through with our server, because I was agonizing over all the delicious options but was also in the mood for steak. It was cooked to perfection, and the foie gras butter with truffle demi glace was indescribably good. The Gulf shrimp with goat cheese grits were so delicious that I will have to go back just to have that entire entree to myself next time.
My husband got the duck (amazing), and our friend ordered the lamb special, which as promised, fell right off the bone. He texted us later to say it was “truly one of [his] favorite dinners ever.” I don’t disagree- especially since I’m still thinking about it on a Sunday afternoon, which prompted me to write this.
Our dinner was not only delicious, but an unforgettable dining experience, for which I’m...
Read moreA local shared their favorite place and it was excellent! The menu was nice, the food excellently executed, and the service to be expected by such an establishment. The intimate dinning allowed for a beautiful ambiance. They had a great mocktail if you don't drink. The flavors where rich and mostly balanced. The brown butter escargot was delicious. The Gala Apple salad with Amish Blue Cheese was crisp, clean, and vibrant. The two dishes separately are delightful but pairing the two allowed for a completely rounded experience hit all the marks of flavor, texture, and brightness. The soup is one of the best onion soups I have had. The crispy duck leg was all that you want when ordering such a dish. It was tender, skin beautifully crispy, and that accompanied sides thoughtful. A solid 4.8, it missed the mark slightly by our service. The service was adequette and fine, there seemed to be a misunderstanding or communication barrier as our waiter would selectively answer questions while ignoring others, even when repeated. It could have been a cultural faux pah on our end, but many of the simple questions, like are there dessert specials or non alcoholic drink selection, seemed to upset, annoy, or fluster our server. Because of this unappetizing energy and rebuffs, our experience was 7 out of 10. (10 being the best experience we have had and 1...
Read moreBistro Daisy is one of our favorite restaurants in town. We dine here weekly. We like it for their excellent food and friendly, attentive service.
What stands out most about Bistro Daisy is the food. Their beef filet is arguably the best in town. Not a big piece of meat, it is always perfectly prepared, and I really enjoy the accompaniment of wilted spinach and potatoes purée. We frequently get one of their fish dishes, which are always cooked to perfection — never over or undercooked and always with tasty sides.
Service is attentive and friendly. This restaurant is frequented by locals, and the waitstaff is often on first name basis with the guests. But they are good at welcoming guests from out of town.
Like many great restaurants in New Orleans, Bistro Daisy is located in an old house. It is very small, but noise level is comparatively low. It would not call this a casual restaurant. You will not find guests in shorts or t-shirts. But it is also not too formal. You may infrequently see a guest wearing blue jeans. I usually do not wear a sport coat here. But I do wear slacks with a nice...
