This review details the hiring process deployed by the owner, and the quite negative experience I encountered during this "process." As I was currently looking for some work, I was excited to see a post on IG of Cherry currently hiring. I immediately emailed and a few days later the owner emailed me back and suggested we meet. During our first meeting, I mentioned within the first two minutes of the interview that I was a strong communicator and that I believe the worst truth will always be better than the best lie, making it known that being an open and honest communicator was something important to me. I also let the owner know that I was interested in working there because I believed in small business and wanted to be an intricate part of the Cherry community and help the business grow and evolve. After a solid interview but with no offer on the table I ended up taking a phone call later that day scheduling an interview at a world renowned and famous restaurant down the street. Seeing as I still didn't have anything to go off of except for what I felt was a positive interview earlier that day, I accepted and scheduled the interview with this famous restaurant. A couple of days later I received an email from the owner at Cherry saying that they liked my vibe, and we might be a good fit. I was scheduled to come in for a 30 minute work interview, which was scheduled after the scheduling of the interview with the famous restaurant, but the second Cherry interview would come one day prior. When I showed up I was thrown to the wolves and just started working. I had a very good connection with every customer I encountered, I was able to hold down the POS system with no problems, and the vibe and flow felt right. During this work interview I told the owner that I did have the interview with the famous restaurant the next day. I did mention several times how much I enjoyed it at Cherry and really liked the vibe and thought that we worked well together. Being someone still with no offer on the table from Cherry, but two successful interviews, I finally exchanged numbers with the owner at the end of it who told me to touch base after my interview the next day. Excited about the prospect of working with Cherry it was nice to feel that they were giving me the 24 hour period to allow me to weigh all of my options, especially since no offer was still made to me at this point. The next morning I was so excited about Cherry that I texted the owner, asking if I could come in to chat after my scheduled interview with the famous restaurant (my intent to come talk about working with Cherry) since I already knew what I wanted, and wanted to touch base in person to get that clarity on that offer that never came. Unfortunately what happened next is the reason this place is getting only 1 star for their hiring practices. I received a very unprofessional text in reply from the owner. I will not go in to details about this text, but the owner DEFINITELY jumped to conclusions about me based on assumptions they developed within their own mind. This was EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL and would not be recommended in any form of business. The owner seemed offended by me taking an interview that was already scheduled before she gave me a second interview and still never put any offer down on the table. I even replied and apologized, something I shouldn't have to be doing or shouldn't even be a situation of that manner as I did nothing wrong and also made no allusions at all to committing to the famous restaurant. All of this went against the communication I had with Cherry to this point and the owner alienated me from feeling accepted even as a patron that would have been a very professional and involved asset to their business. This behavior only reciprocates the jumping to conclusions based on assumptions - if the owner is this unprofessional and mentally unstable to a prospective hire, then this must be how they are to work with as well.
Coffee, food, and atmosphere are great though (but you will be paying a...
Read moreStopped by this eclectic and warm coffee shop on a spur of the moment looking for a great place to get work done and it was a wonderful surprise! Across the street from a park, it is welcoming and has lots of parking. Inside, it really has a native, New Orleanian feel. I love the "Let her have it" tip jar that is a reference to an iconic commercial anyone here in the 80s or before would know of. These little additions in the style give it a sense of place rooted in the neighborhood and the city.
The coffee, tea and food were excellent. I had a breakfast sandwich that was absolutely perfect. It was filling and healthy and gave just the right amount of being full. It was freshly made and again, perfect. The service was wonderful and the wifi is strong. It seems to have a good base of regulars.
Cozy, it has ample space and the table are arranged so that you can easily maneuver. Outside there is a patio and if you are compassionate of others, you may smoke outside. It is a cute and relaxing respite that kind of takes you out of the the everyday with its whimsy in the decorations and the cute cards they use for your orders.
I love the interior decor. I would have sat at the velvety bench but my seat at the computer bar was good. The leather seats are unique and fit the space.
I would love to visit again and get a place at the window. I needed a plug but next time I will charge before for optimal choices.
I wholeheartedly recommend this coffee shop. The music (not too loud and not too soft) was themed to the late sixties/early seventies (soft rock?) and made me remember so many people I used to know in the city. All in all, I think it is good for work or meetings, sitting with a friend and catching up or being a go-to coffee spot. I am happy I decided to try something new and got a lot done there. It is a friendly environment and again... Easy to park and it is free parking. Definitely visit...
Read moreA really lovely neighbourhood coffee shop with a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. This coffee shop succeeds in offering high quality in house specialty roasts in a totally unpretentious manner, for those people who find they often lose a sense of place in the litany of specialty shops whose decor rings of Brooklyn, Seattle, or Copenhagen, Cherry Espresso Bar sits neatly into its surroundings in the lower garden district.
Offering indoor and outdoor seating options which are kept scrupulously clean by the friendly staff, it has outlets, WiFi, and unobtrusive background music all the essentials for work or study even during a pandemic!
As for the coffee itself the roast quality is consistently high and their retail bags are easy to brew to a high standard at home for those wishing to support local businesses with their patronage. From the limited sample I have had my impression is that this is a place that will always pull you a quality and interesting espresso shop, though if you are in love with your twentieth century Italian dark roast blends I would warn you that you will not find that here! They only offer a single origin which changes daily so be prepared for excitement and also potentially higher acidity which is often synonymous with modern espresso!
All in all, a fabulous option on the short list of best New Orleans...
