In 2015, I had completed defending a physics dissertation at UNO. Three of my good friends, who were supporting me throughout PhD journey and are PhD themselves, my sister(masters in mechanical engineering) and I decided to come here to have dinner. At the time, my sister and I lived in the area and we wanted some soul food to celebrate this chapter of my life ending. I was happy to have had completed a milestone and we were all joking and having a blast chatting about the entire experience of graduate school while eating delicious ribs. We were here at Dixie's for about 5-6 hours to be honest. When we were done, we asked for the check and the lovely server notified us that our bill was paid for already. Stunned and speechless, we were wondering why, how, and who was responsible for this. The server responded with a smile saying a table that was sitting close to us, who wished to remain anonymous, heard all of our conversations and decided to treat my milestone achievement with this altruistic act of kindness. We said thank you to the server, but the server wittily responded she had nothing to do with it and we should thank the unknown table. We walked over to the ice cream place next door to get ice cream afterwards. It was a lovely day. I still think about this day every now and then even though it's been five years. I hope that random kind stranger, the server, and this restaurant, are all doing well. I remind myself every day to do the same and keep passing on kindness and love every time I get the chance too. One of these days, I shall go back to NOLA and I will return for some yummy delicious food again at Dixie's...

BBQ chicken was a baked-in-the-oven piece of chicken with bbq sauce slathered all over it. Ribs tasted like they came out of a packet and were baked with the chicken and had the same bbq sauce on them. I mean, spend $75 and get a bbq pit from Home Depot if you want to say you have barbeque.
Woman behind the bar was more interested in talking to her buddy than grabbing my take-out order from the kitchen. Must've stood at the bar(4ft away from her) for 5 minutes before I spoke up and said I wanted to get my order. She got it, and continued talking to the one guy at the bar. Had to tell her to grab my receipt because she was too busy to notice it had printed during her illustrious, worldly conversation. Deserved a negative tip, but I was nice and just wrote that if her service was as good as her boobs, we'd be in good shape.
Maybe the fried chicken is good, but I'll never find out because I am...
Read moreMy wife and I walked in and stood at the bar to place an order. There were only two men seated separately at bar having a beer. The older female bartender observed us walk up to the bar and did not greet us. She she then began leisurely looking at a piece of paper. Durning this time 2 to 3min has passed without her acknowledging us. She then walked away without saying a word. Another customer walked in and stood at the bar waiting for the bartender. She appeared with a to-go order and asked if he was waiting for an order. He said yes, he told her his order and she said, I have it right here. My wife and I are still standing there without being acknowledged. The bartender was making small talk with the customer while making the transaction. My wife decided she had enough and wanted to leave. We turned away and still nothing from that bartender. I honestly felt the color of our skin played a hug factor in not...
