Tried to give it at least a month for things to simmer down before giving it a shot. We really didn't have a problem with the portion sizes, the quesadilla was smaller than your typical flour burrito size tortilla but giant chunks of meat and a generous portion of good cheese made up for it. Ounce for ounce, it probably held its own but it just appears smaller.
The tacos aren't terribly priced but we found the Pastor meat to be really thickly sliced, which isn't great with that cut of meat. I know I saw some other reviews concerning this so maybe it is something the owners should consider. It was just really chewy. Barbacoa was excellent, the combination of shrimp and chicharrons was really tasty for that taco as well. One of us had the drum taco and said it was excellent.
Pozole rojo... Lost us on that one. Did notice the wonderfully plump corn that was obviously imported and the toppings were spot on but we all thought it wasn't rojo, it was creamy and it was absolutely the best tortilla soup we have had in a restaurant. No offense to the cooks, it was super tasty, it just didn't hit us as the flavor of any pozole.
Whatever the spiciest salsa that our server brought us from the back. Not super spicy but what a flavor! If it was bottled, I would go through one every week.
Drinks were good, if not a bit lricy for some of the higher end tequilas. Just couldn't bring myself to purchase 2 ounces of 7 Leguas for $15. That puts it at almost $200 per bottle for a $40 bottle of tequila, or $15 if I bought it in Jalisco.
Don't miss out on starters. They are oddly placed at the bottom of the menu. I was the only one in my party that noticed then. Oddly, they thought the bottom would be the obvious dessert section. That said, no dessert?
Guacamole was great. Service was excellent. We will give it a try in a month or so to see if some of those issues iron out. That said, welcome to the neighborhood, thank you for fixing up a terrible corner and converting it to a solid restaurant and we hope you all succeed in...
Read moreI want this place to succeed as I live in the neighborhood and id like a place close by for date night. I also used to be in the restaurant business and would love to support a local business. So the good things first. The decor is very well thought out and the lighting/ambiance is beautiful. The outdoor area is stunning! The service was cordial enough. For the price point, I expect table service and not have to line up every time I want something. I definitely would have had another margarita but didn’t want the hassle of cuing up again. The food was ok. I ordered 2 tacos, a side of chips and salsa and a quesadilla, while my son got 3 tacos. He was very happy with his food. My tacos were cold. I wanted to send them back, but again, I would have had to line up again. The taco shells were dry. The chips and salsa were ok, but a very small portion. The quesadilla shell was dry as well, but the meat and cheese was tasty. No one came to check on us to see if the food was good. This is after leaving a 20% tip. While having my meal with my 10 year old, he noticed a urine smell. It became more apparent as someone approached our table asking us for money for food. He was clearly very strung out on something and had had an accident in his pants. To my dismay, the staff didn’t tell him to leave, just let him do his thing. Overall my first impression was won over, despite the negative points, with the beautiful space. I want this place to succeed! Hopefully, you all can get through the growing pains of a...
Read moreHorrible customer service. Rude staff and the tacos are not that good. ROSALITA’S down the street makes way better tacos. Would not recommend Galaxie. ONE star is too much for these creeps. Read my response to the owner's response.
Absolutely abhorrent response from the owner. Every resident on Clouet Street HATES Galaxie. You are going to be hearing from the Fire Marshal and the City for all of your violations. For example, the City said that you were supposed to use your parking lot for parking, yet you turned it into seating. We, living next to you, cannot even park in front of our houses! Complete disrespect for the neighborhood and your neighbors!
I ordered two tacos "to go" and the person behind the register told me to "Get outside with my dog". I slammed my order number on the counter, told him that he was rude and asked for a refund. I was more than willing to go outside with my dog, but the person behind the register jumped up, opened the door, pushed me backwards (I almost fell). He and the manager proceeded to close the door on my arm (I stuck it in the doorway, because my dog was still inside). I yelled repeatedly that my dog was still inside as they repeatedly closed the door on my arm. So, who...
