I am giving 2 starts instead of one only because they are BRAND NEW and perhaps maybe one day I’ll try again, BUT…..

  1. The guy was outside when we walked up on playing his phone, then didn’t wash his hands
  2. The restaurant was completely empty, and he was sorta short and unkind
  3. I have a gluten allergy, and I know how much food I can reasonably consume. I asked for the sandwich portion (no bread) and fries - As they come together…. He tried to upsell me to the bowl and fries, which was several dollars more and I knew was gonna be TOO MUCH FOOD.
  4. He tells me “don’t be shocked on how small the portion is if you order a “sandwich” without the bread… MEANWHILE, HIS DISPLAY IS COMPLETELY FULL OF VEGGIES, and there is LITERALLY no one in the restaurant, and he acts like he’s not going to have to throw things out possibly anyway (I’ve worked in kitchens for nearly 30 years). Not that I want that for them, but damn, here are 3 gals trying your restaurant for the first time and this is how you act????

If you look at all my reviews, you know I really don’t like writing bad ones… but this was sour. I hope they can do better when folks go out of their way to visit them.

I’ll stick to Cleo’s for now, tho they are much farther and not in my neighborhood like...

The most delicious and nutrient-dense meal you can get for under $20 per person in the Bywater, by far. Choices of falafel or shawarma protein, salad or rice base, then you pick up to five different add-ons like baba ganuj, hummus, tabouli, cabbage slaw, olive salad, sour pickles, shaved carrots, spiced onions and more... Then there are the sauces, oh my GOD the sauces! The toum (creamy garlic sauce) is an absolute MUST, and then there's tahini, jalapeno relish or chili paste.. all pack a huge flavor punch for your mouth! I absolutely love this place - it's always extremely clean and the staff are polite and generous with their portions. Best kept secret for a quick healthy bite in New Orleans! Try it today and see...

Moshiko is the new & much-anticiated jewel of St. Claude, I had the good fortune to have my first bites last night! I ordered the chicken shwarma and the falafel pita. They were both exquisite- I think they make their own unleavened bread, the shwarma came wrapped in it, a large, thin bread that took on all of the flavors beautifully. The falafel is absolutely the best I’ve had - a close first to 1000 Figs’ version. Moshiko just opened, so expect and embrace the growing pains, neighbors! Their was a small wait, but it was pleasant enough inside: a very clean and crisp environment, if not a bit bright. That just might be my vanity talking hahaha! If you’ve read this far, do yourself a favor and go to...

Ordered the Shawarma Saj ($17.99 in 2024). Comes with fries, two sides, and the shawarma wrap. Ingredients are good. Fries, nicely fried — and I like it a lot, lol. The humus is fine (honestly, I’m not a humus guy so it’s fine). The eggplant salad side, very nice. Refreshing, solid crunch. No drinks except for: Coke, Sprite and water ($1.59). The meal is pricey for St Claude but ate a bit more than half and have a decent lunch the next day with an added apple and another side. As for the inside of restaurant, it is well done. Note; There are six tables. Overall, enjoyable.

A newcomer to the Bywater, Moshiko is a gem! It is so exciting to see entrepreneurs striking out to gentrify an old forgotten street corner. What an American dream to take the startup experience to new levels. This is a true family business and they have done everything well from the food to the service and atmosphere. The chef has poured his heart and soul into this and I hope the Bywater & New Orleans embraces them. I love the fact they are undeterred by the area and are forging into this business with an exceptional experience!

The bywater has been lacking in quick, fresh options for a while and this is absolutely the solution. Everything looks like it was prepared minutes before I walked in the door (you can see all the ingredients on the assembly line from behind a glass case). Falafel is the best I’ve ever had. Only falafel I’ve ever had that isn’t dry…like at all. The store itself is beyond sparkling. I truly don’t know how they keep it so clean in there. And lastly, the family that runs the place are very sweet and welcoming every time.
