My dad used to take us to Homer’s in the 1980’s on our way back from visiting his mom in a nursing home. The only ice cream (and one of few desserts) I ever saw him eat so it has special memories for me. But other than ordering it at restaurants around Chicagoland that carry Homer’s, I haven’t been back in 30 years. Finally went on a perfect summer midweek afternoon with my mom. It was exactly like I remembered it. Super quaint / fun throw back. We had no wait and when the employee realized we were going to split a small, he said he could do a split small with half of two flavors! I was impressed with this option and with his excellent service. We ordered the seasonal peach and the pecan praline. Peach was good but the pecan praline was superb (I’m biased - it has their vanilla as the base and I love vanilla). Nice small pieces of nuts not huge chunks. I used the bathroom and was pleasantly surprised that it was perfectly clean, had paper, and worked well, despite several negative Yelp reviews. Now I just wonder why it took me 30 years to return. I can’t wait to go back!

Homers, a charming restaurant and ice cream parlor, offers a very friendly and open atmosphere. The made-from-scratch strawberry milkshake was a delightful treat, boasting deliciousness in every sip. On the restaurant side, the lukewarm fries initially raised an eyebrow, but my granddaughter devoured every single one, making them a hit in her book. The real beef chili cheese hotdog was quite delicious, although the cheese and chili with big beans weren't personal favorites. Despite these preferences, the overall experience was great, and my granddaughter and I had a lovely time at Homers. A four-star gem for its warm ambiance and tasty treats.

raspberry sorbet was the standout! Stopped by Homer’s for ice cream and loved the retro diner feel. My fiancĂ© had the raspberry sorbet and it was phenomenal — super fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. The other flavors we tried (raspberry chip and moose tracks) were decent but didn’t blow us away. We didn’t try the food, but it looked solid — the kind of classic diner fare you’d come back for. Staff was friendly, service was quick, and the space was clean and welcoming. All in all, a cute stop — worth it for the vibe and that sorbet! But I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way.

This is definitely a family friendly place that has something for everyone to eat. Their burgers are better than average and the service is fast and friendly.

On the other hand I stopped in on Saturday March 22nd for a burger. I waited at the counter for a good 3 minutes until the chef in the back called the order takers attention that someone was standing there waiting. A tall thin guy with locks/braids came out as he was shoving a few fries in his mouth. I told him I wanted a double burger with bacon. He asked what I wanted on it and I had asked what comes on it. He said he didn't know and pointed to the menu and told me to take a look it's all there. This is probably the reason why I'm updating this review. As I was waiting for my order I noticed that everyone else was working except for this guy. He was playing around by the ice cream and had a few more fries while everyone else was keeping busy doing their job. The guy is obviously looking for attention and I hope my review helped him get what he was looking for. Also, nothing changes the fact it's still a darn...

I've always wondered about Homers ice cream. I'd heard so much about it since I moved here. I love peach ice cream. But homers peach ice cream is pretty bad. Its kind of a pinky/salmon in color. We all know that isn't the color of peaches. It doesn't have a vanilla base with peaches. Its just this pink stuff with no Real peach taste. It almost tastes like just flavoring and gums. The mouth feel is not creamy, but gummy. I didn't detect one real peach in it. The container does list ingredients. But I can tell you I get no lovely creamy vanilla with chunks of peaches bursting with peachy ness. I didn't even finish it. Ice-cream is a real treat for me. But it isn't worth eating if it isn't good. I was sooo disappointed. Because people rave...
