I believe we went when there was an event in the back - please make sure you have proper staffing for the restaurant and your venue area because the service was extremely slow on a Sunday while there weren’t even that many customers. We came in with two groups and we put our own high chairs for the babies, we had to get up 2-3 times to put our own order in, request metal cutlery (which there wasn’t enough of) instead of plastic cutlery, we even grabbed our own extra plates and the napkins weren’t properly placed and they would barely come out. The service was overall very very poor and slow and I don’t blame the staff, the gentleman was nice but the management definitely did not do their due diligence. In terms of the food, we ordered a lot of different dishes - fatoush, hummus, mansaf, chicken shawarma, and marqa - and they were all pretty good. The grilled chicken was burned though, my mandi was not mandi (the rice and meat were not smoked), and for some reason it was served on a smaller plate than my friends’ dishes which caused it to spill over the sides but it still tasted good as normal meat and rice. Their portions are also decent. Their juice is fresh and tastes very good. Overall, I’d love to come again for the food but please work on your customer service and ensure it’s good quality regardless of the venue bookings. No one wants to wait 30 minutes for a shawrma or an hour for their table...
Read moreOne of the best Yemeni restaurants I’ve ever been to. Excellent food and pretty expansive menu. I ordered the Haneeth, grilled chicken, Kibbeh and hummus with chicken shawarma. All the dishes were excellent. I highly recommend the Haneeth here which is the slow cooked lamb. If you like lamb, then I think you will love this dish.
The grilled chicken isn’t for everyone. My family doesn’t like the charred taste but I’m a huge fan of it. It’s very common to get this type of chicken in the Middle East and the charred/grilled flavor is what makes the dish unique. The rice is super flavorful and rich. All the vegetables in the accompanying salads were super fresh along with the limes they gave with the soup. That’s a good indication of the quality of a restaurant, when their raw veggies are super fresh.
This restaurant used to be called Oasis Mediterranean. I’ve been coming here for years. About 5 years ago the restaurant was sold to new owners/management and it was renamed to Alwaha. I’ve seen the improvements made since the restaurant was sold. Bravo to the new ownership!
By the way, Laila at the front takeout counter was great! Super friendly, professional and very kind. New ownership/management: you need to retain this employee and give her a promotion/raise! She represents excellent service/quality and elevates your brand and customer experience....
Read moreI recently dined at Alwaha Restaurant, and I must say, it’s hands down the best Yemeni food I’ve had in New York! The flavors are authentic, rich, and truly take you on a journey to Yemen. The lamb haneeth was perfectly tender and juicy, the fahsa was seasoned to perfection, and the freshly baked mulawah bread was soft and paired beautifully with everything.
The service was exceptional as well – the staff were welcoming, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting, perfect for a family meal or a casual dinner with friends.
If you’re looking for authentic Yemeni cuisine, Alwaha is a must-visit. I will definitely be...
