Amici's pizza has always been the epitome of cheap, but mediocre to me. I would say on average, the prices are cheaper than average. I specifically remember a special where you get two rolls of your choosing that was cheaper than what I got at El Fanono(Il Forno) by about a few dollars. Eventually when I got it again after having the buffalo rolls at El Fanono(Il Forno) I simply couldn't go back to Amici's. Historically when I got their pizza, it was always stale. However, in this case I can give them the benefit of the doubt as I historically came at later hours where low foot traffic all but guaranteed stale pizza. On normal occasions, I would say the pizza is overwhelmingly average. I never had a very positive opinion of it but found that it was at least cheap and had some reasonable deals behind it. Their pepperoni and black olive toppings are perfectly fine albeit greasy with regards to the pepperoni. Their buffalo chicken historically was one of the worst kinds I've tasted, characterized by a hairy texture that El Fanono(Il Forno) briefly adopted at one point. I do however think this is not the case anymore at Amici's either.
As for pasta, it's also nothing to write home about but it is fairly cheap. I'm not a fan of penne style pasta but that was what I initially got there, it didn't really change my opinion on it. Eventually, I realized that rigatoni: my favorite type of pasta, actually is in fact an option and that was definitely better. Not at the same tier as other places I've gotten it in, but perfectly fine as a cheap meal. Their garlic gnots can be hit or miss at times, being either really greasy, really dry or just right.
My personal experiences with Amici's itself are highly mixed, they were arguably there for me when I briefly had little money to my name in the midst of my parents being hospitalized which is far better than I could say for how Palermo Pizza handled that. Nonetheless, before that, they had a bit of a history of withholding parts of my order. The first time I explained this on the phone, they quickly and gracefully handled the whole thing which I was deeply impressed by. After the second time, they simply made me pay a second time whenever I called so I gave up going to Amici's for a while.
Ultimately, Amici's is a mixed bag to me: A place with mediocre food and good prices that I have both good and bad memories of. If I really had to go here, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but I wouldn't walk 5 miles or even half a mile just to go here. If I could make this review 2.5 out of 5 stars, I would do it but I can't so I'll round my score up to 3 stars...
Read moreI usually order from here on a regular basis. Nothing crazy, just either one of their large pies plain, pepperoni, buffalo, etc. Their pies are usually pretty good. In fact, probably one of the better pies around my area. However recently they dont seem to be listening to their customers. Whenever I order a pie, I order it well done… always. But the last few months, the pies never come well done even though it is clearly written on the receipt in bold red letters. I have held off, thinking this would correct itself, but unfortunately it hasn’t. If one is going to pay $20.00 for a plain pie, or any pie, listen to your customers and make the pie the way they request. Not just rush it out the door because you are busy. And while I am talking about the receipt, what’s with the $1.00 delivery charge? Not sure why I never noticed it before and I know it’s only a dollar, but that’s not the point. Covid is over bro, stop nickel and diming your customers. The place is always packed and it’s always a long wait for a pie, so I think you can afford to pay your employees enough without tacking on an extra dollar to everyone’s delivery. I’d rather pay more for the food than see a extra delivery charge on my bill. At least make me feel a little bit like I’m not getting screwed. Next time I’ll just deduct it from the drivers tip. I’m sure the drivers will...
