Andrews was always fine to come to once in a while. But it’s finally time to unveil a little truth.
Their food is mediocre. When you come here, you settle for decent. It’s no secret.
The ownership seriously lacks any accountability for their actions when it comes to orders that are messed up and relations with their customers. The younger manager is cordial and patient while the older manager has reached a point where it’s visibly obvious that he simply doesn’t care anymore and shuns customers instead of fixing the problem.
The staff prior to the pandemic was as before, always a busy staff, but still filled with smiles and consistently great. But now things have changed. Regardless of when you call or visit them, patience seems to be at premium. Instead of taking a moment to hear out a customer they don’t bother or send it to somebody else. The staff doesn’t care because they are simply too busy.
The orders are commonly messed up. They simply will go to the kitchen and ask for something else costing the place more money on product which I’ll guess only fuels the larger problem.
When it comes to pricing, when you order something, make sure you stick to the menu. As soon as you decide to order something customized, you’ll quickly find that prices skyrocket and depending on who is taking the order it’s always different regardless. This nonsense has been going on for about 10 years now. They have no issues gouging you because they don’t know their doing it.
There’s always room to grow and there’s always room for change. And largely they do a decent job. They try to keep everybody happy and they try to keep the place clean and they try to pay some attention to everyone who comes there.
But as always, the problem always begins at the top. The person in charge sets the tone. And when the person in charge is rude to his customers when he himself is in the wrong then it’s time for a vacation or it’s time to pass the keys. If he’s rude to his customers, you can only imagine how he is with his employees.
Over the many years, being a patron here, I have offered more than a few of my suggestions and recommendations, and I am pleased that they have taken all of them and they have changed for the better but at some point you’re beating a dead horse when it comes to the business.
Instead of being proud that they employee so many people on our small island and treat them well, Instead of making a conscious effort to pump out better food, Instead of seeking better vendors and better quality, instead of refreshing the design over a weekend.
The larger problem seems to want to keep things the same and while that may be good for most of you. I myself am done. There are plenty of other places on Staten Island. To eat that are far better today. I sincerely hope Andrews Diner someday changes. Time and again a little bit will go by and...
Read moreI’m a long time patron and always support Andrews diner but had a really bad experience tonight. My wife ordered the pork chop meal. The pork chops were bad. The meat was inedible and undercooked. The meat smelled and tasted bad. The waitress made it seem like they were doing us a favor by taking them back and removing the pork chops from the bill. We never even mentioned removing the pork chops from the bill but after the waitress spoke to the owner and returned It was made clear that the side dishes would have be paid for and the chops removed from the bill. I felt that was fair until The bill came and the salad, potato and vegetable added up to almost as much as the dinner special so basically they charged almost full boat but without actually providing the full meal as there was no meat. To add, I ordered a cheeseburger which came out from the kitchen after the pork chop debacle and after the table of four next to us were served their meals although they sat a good 15 minutes after we did. The owner was made aware of the situation by his staff and acknowledged to the waitress and hostess that he knew us and that we were regulars but never approached the table or tried to make a reasonable accommodation or explanation. It seemed as if he was ignoring us so I relayed my disappointment to the hostess. I told her the entire experience was handled poorly and since the owner stood within ear shot but did not have the decency to come speak to me I would not be returning. He never even said a word to me, He literally ignored us. I feel bad having to write Andrew’s off as our go to but I’ve seen the handwriting on the wall for some time. This was an insult and I feel terrible about this but this was the owners doing since I tried to reason with the waitress and the hostess. The hostess, I don’t remember her name but she’s been there for years and years is one of the best around and...
Read moreWent with my boyfriend for the very first time here. We saw it had the most stars amongst all diners in the area so we thought it would be a good idea to try it out. Ordered a chicken avocado wrap which comes with a side of guacamole although the wrap already has avocado in it... also fries and a pickle and coleslaw was included. Staff was super friendly and our waitress was great and there was a server constantly refilling our cups of water which we loved. However, the food is what will make me never come back. When my food arrived the display was beautiful. Until I realized how dark my thick cut fries were. They’ve been refried (I’ve worked at a deli before and can tell what refried fries look like) they were bland and drenched in oil, I had a bite of the wrap... and had to take out a piece of chicken to find out ITS BLAND. Opened my little side of guacamole and moved it around to find it was already turning yellow so it must’ve been packed with other little sides of guacamole since the morning which is gross cause guacamole should always be made in small batches to be kept fresh. I went to pick up my pickle and I used my hands which I regret cause it was room temperature more on the hot/warm side regarding it was 87degree weather. After having a cold sandwich order you would think you would get a cold pickle. Did not at all like anything...
