Barbecue Pit — Restaurant in New York

I ordered dinner today (5/12/24), for Mother's Day. I understood that due to when I ordered, dinner rush on Mother's Day, it would take around an hour to be delivered to my home. Almost three hours later it arrives, luckily hot (although I'm assuming that's because they forgot we ordered in the first place, since when we called to ask about the status of our delivery, they had no idea who we were), and was subpar in flavor. We ordered the 'Family Meal', and it was more than enough serving wise for three people, but the chicken was dry, barely seasoned, and the glorified barbecue sauce that came on the side was essentially water. The spare ribs were cooked thoroughly, not falling off the bone, but also lacked in flavor. The sides we ordered were the mac and cheese and stuffing with gravy. The mac and cheese was okay, but had no other flavor than the cheese itself. And lastly the stuffing. Absolutely horrible, it was soggy and chunky. We asked for gravy on the side, and our meal came with no gravy, so I'm assuming the gravy was contributing to the soggyness although there was no gravy flavor at all. The delivery man is the only good thing about this place now. I used to order from here quite often until they fired the very nice woman who used to answer the phone & serve the tables. Now the owner does it all because (i assume) she doesn’t want to pay anymore staff - which is totally fine & within reason. But let me tell you this women is not JUST rude with her customers, & the same goes with her staff (from what I witnessed when I ate in) Rude isn’t enough to describe this woman’s disposition & character towards, well everyone. As she has been absolutely nothing short of unmannerly, brash, curt, graceless, impolite, audacious & uncivil. Honestly the food is pretty good, the pie as well. Although it’s nothing that you, your wife or mother couldn’t muster up as well at home. I truly cant stress enough how sharp and flat out abrasive & arrogant the lady is. It surprises me that she is still in business, it makes me wonder if something unsavory & felonious is going on when gates close for the night. Thats a wild assumption - probably false - I know, but THATS how inadequate this women’s behavior is, I just don’t know how she is still open...

Truly, truly a gem. The food is amazing. The people behind it are somehow even more amazing. Whenever I'm sick or just need comfort, this is where I order from.

I can order here when I'm trying to be good on my diet--the Mediterranean salad with shrimp is a favorite, as are the veggie burger (ask for cheddar cheese!) and turkey meatloaf. The lentil soup is also a great choice, and there's a range of healthy sides to choose from too.

But when I want a less "healthy" treat (read: most of the time), I'm getting fried catfish or baby back ribs and a chili cheese dog. The food always arrives fresh, and the driver is always friendly. The owner, Rani, answers the phone and is at this point one of my favorite people in the world. She cares and it shows.

To end: I brought their cornbread to the ER the day after I ordered it and shared it with other patients. It had a bunch of really sick people joking and laughing after hours of waiting to be seen.
