Ciro's Pastry Shop — Restaurant in New York

After ordering cakes from Ciro’s Bakery multiple times, I’m sorry to say that they’ll no longer have my business. I ordered a cake for my brother’s 30th birthday and knew the cake wasn’t gonna look exactly like the picture provided, but I didn’t think the cake would look so unprofessionally done. I tried calling the bakery several times to figure out what can be done about this, only to be told Maria, the boss, is the only one who could help me with this. I finally spoke with Maria who didn’t even give me the opportunity to show her the pictures of what I was talking about and ultimately said to me, “I gotta go” and proceeded to hang up on me. I tried calling her again and she didn’t answer the phone. I am astounded that the boss of such a reputable bakery would treat their customers with such lack of respect that they wouldn’t even allow them the opportunity to finish a conversation and furthermore, send them pictures. Maria has told me she wouldn’t see the pics until tomorrow but already made up her mind about no refunds...but she’ll make me a new cake if I wanted to. Why would I want a cake made again after being treated so rudely? Afterwards, I spoke with the woman who initially took my order who then said she would talk to her boss about my options. She calls me back to say the boss saw the pics and said the cake was beautiful? 1. How did you see the cake suddenly when you said you would see the pictures tomorrow? And 2. How can a cake be beautiful with a dowel sticking out. 3. Why are pieces of the cake different colors. 4. Why is the fondant so...

Lovey looking and tasting cakes...UNHYGIENIC staff !!! Maria's bakery is beautifully decorated. The pastries are delicious, and the presentation is wonderful. However, the service is terrible. Today, July 12, 2022 I went in with my friend....it's his birthday today. The last couple of times, we went in, I was upset by the fact that the staff were not using gloves, they smeared pastry creme all over the boxes, and generally were unwelcoming, as echoed by other customers. Today, I forced myself to go in, only because it's my friend's bday. The native Italian speaking staff (young, pregnant girl) was lovely and kind as always. She put on a glove and started helping us. The other staff girl, a tallish blonde, was initially friendly, but when I requested that she please not handle my food as she wasn't wearing gloves.....her attitude immediately changed. She became hostile, said she was "just about to put on gloves", and only then did she put on gloves. I felt humiliated and uncomfortable because it was almost like she was forcing me to accept food that I felt was somehow dirty. Note, that when customer's pay, they should be made to feel comfortable, especially with something going into their body.....i.e. food. It ruined the whole experience for me and my friend....on...

I have always used Ciro's for our family parties/events. I found it odd when I came in a month ago to place an order for a Baptism cake that I was told the order didn't need to be placed until 4-5 days before the event. I came back two more times, before they would even take my order. I had a picture of the type of cake I was looking for and was told that the cake would be made of two 10 inch rounds with fondant icing, chocolate cake-chocolate mousse filling, with blue roses on top. I also ordered two dozen cupcakes with light blue perils. The woman called to confirm order and pricing, and I stopped in the bakery again to double check that everything was set. (I did not however get a copy of the slip she was writing everything down on, which I would recommend everyone else to do).

The morning of the Baptism we picked up: cupcakes with royal blue sprinkles that were smashed into a box, a two tiered cake that was one big layer, one little layer, butter cream icing, grey/off white roses, and the best part ... when we finally cut it ... it was vanilla. The bakery basically told us to take it or leave it, and that it would taste good. The cake did taste good, but I didn't pay $250 to have a surprise cake and non-matching cupcakes. I'm sorry to say that I won't be using...
