If I could base my review on the servers and food, I'd give 5 stars. But I'm basing this on the owner who was absolutely horrible, therefore 1 star and if I could give less, I would. I had my baby shower here. About a half an hour in, the electricity went out. No AC. No lights. My guests were sitting in the heat and the dark. Because of no electricity, we could not have individual plates, had to do family style. Sitting next to the kitchen, and having no AC, the room was ridiculously hot. I had my 90 year old grandmother and a guest with a baby, ontop of me being 8 months pregnant. It was very uncomfortable. We ended up needing to open a door, 10 ft away from the door was the dumpsters and we ended up getting a ton of flies in the room. We also could not have cappuccino or espresso, because the machines were down (included in our package). We were told we could have regular coffee, which was never served with our cake. When one of the servers tried to negotiate a deal on our behalf, the owner was VERY nasty with my husband - saying none of it was his fault and mentioned we already had to cheapest package and "what do you want me to do?" He offered to remove the tax. No apology. No nothing. I called back and tried to explain that the room was sweltering and my guests had to eat with no lights and flies all around, I'm not paying close to full price, all I got was "sweltering? It's not hot out. What else do you want from me? Dont you see a con ed truck outside?" Very combative. I was then told to not come back to his establishment - NO PROBLEM, I won't and neither will any of my guests. What was supposed to be a happy day ended up being embarrassing. I had guests fly in, drive in from other states. Not at all the experience I wanted for them, or for us. The lights and AC eventually came back and then went off again. People ended up leaving. It was not enjoyable. The owner is lucky to have the kind staff that he does, that offered to help take things back to the car and apologized profusely. My advice? Find new jobs. Your boss doesn't deserve you. To the owner, the restaurant business ain't for you. Find a new day job.
Update: 10/3 - since I'm unable to respond to the owners comment, 25 years means nothing when you're combative over the phone, rude and unapologetic..had the conversation gone another way, with a little more understanding to the situation, I may have been a little nicer. But after my husband and I were met with nothing but "what do you want me to do" instead of "how can I make this right" - no care for my guests being in the heat after being challenged about temperature inside the room when the owner wasnt even on site to see for himself, being told we had the cheapest package already which had nothing to do with anything - yes - you will be insulted. Sometimes things are out of our control and thats understandable, but kindness goes a long way. And no 10% was not enough since 2 out of the 3 hours of my party were affected, which is over 60%. So let's leave it at that and not try to act like any favors were done here....
Read moreWas at Enzo's around 8 P.M last night with 4 of my friends the place was quite busy but they sat us right away they handed us our menus which I must say was very professionally made nice hard covered copy rather than the long plastic menus other restaurants have that have fingerprints all over it sorry get off the subject.
They took our drink orders my table ordered a bottle of wine the the waiter open up the bottle of wine tableside let it breathe for about a minute, he sniffed the cork to ensure freshness, poured a little drop taste into one of the gentlemen's wine glass who took a sip to give his okay that the wine was good then one around the table to fill everyone's glass of wine.
We ordered our appetizers which was out of this world we started with baked clams game with 12 on a dish the little necks, seafood salad, mussels marinara, and grilled octopus cooked to perfection. He then placed the order into the computer came back to the table with fresh bread bread-and-butter the bread had a amazing fresh look and taste.
After placing our appetizer order he took his time to explain the specials I had chicken cutlet parmigiana with homemade marinara sauce, the other guests enjoyed sea bass oreganata very flaky and moist ,some sort of veal dish cooked to perfection very soft, very fresh. It is very hard to find a restaurant to prepare the proper way, shrimp fra diavolo over spaghetti very tasty. Expect to pay on average about $20 per dish well worth the money. Come hungry large portions of everything the waiter and waiter's for all clean cut white shirts tucked black aprons on the waist with not one stain on it with uniform looking like that it makes you know that's the place is clean and well organized. Always made sure how everything was and everyone was satisfied with their meal.
Quite a large selection of fresh homemade desserts from cheesecakes to molten lava chocolate cake, homemade lobster claws with cannoli cream, St Joseph's with a vanilla custard and others everything looks good it was a hard decisions to choose just one so my solution order one of everything LOL.
I gave a 5-star review because there is no more to give if there was I give it 50 stars. I will absolutely be back and highly recommended this restaurant do anyone in or...
Read moreAs I entered Enzo's, I was welcomed by a family atmosphere: wooden window frames, wine bottles on the back wall, and family tables set up. It was early dinner time - I arrived at 5:40; I observed families and some couples already sitting and enjoying. After a vaccination check, I made it into one of the indoor tables. Immediately, a basket of fresh bread, butter, salt, pepper and olive oil was setup, and water served. I went for the Baked Polenta for appetizer, their Classic Gin Negroni for a drink, and their Chicken Sorrentino for the main dish. I confirmed I am definitely not a fan of gin - I did not like the cocktail, although I did appreciate the mix of flavors despite my distaste. The Baked Polenta was definitely the star of dinner overall: soft, creamy and delicious - the contrast of the Polenta and bean textures plus the cheese and tomato on the sauce were a tasty combination. The Chicken Sorrentino was delicious - the sauce was definitely what stood out in this dish; the chicken itself was not juicy, but the sauce makes up for it very well. As I finished the Sorrentino, I was unable to reject the waiter's American hospitality with an Italian twist: "I'm sure you have space for dessert!" I replied: "Well, I will have to see the dessert menu." A minute later, he brought a big tray filled with dessert samples - no paper menu, just choose from the samples, and they will give you a fresh dessert. I went for the Torta Della Nonna, which is similar to a lemon pie; I added a coffee to wash it all off. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of desserts, especially in US because of the big portions - despite that, the Torta wasn't bad: the lemon filling was a bit light, while the sweetness stood out on the crust. The coffee was just perfect, and a great way to finish this visit to Enzo's. As I left the restaurant, more tables were setup with many groups, mostly adult families - something nice to see, considering we are slowly leaving the pandemic crisis in NYC.
Overall, great experience here: warm atmosphere, good portions, delicious Italian dishes, friendly hospitality. I would recommend Enzo's if you crave Italian and are particularly hungry, if you need a place for date night or a small...
