This is the most well deserved and long overdue review I’ve ever written. My fiancé and I have been coming to this diner for around 2 years now. This truly is our second home, the food is delicious, portions are insanely huge, atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming, but what ties everything together is our beloved server Mike! We haven’t received better customer service from any other establishment, michelin star or a regular dining experience, Mike beats them all! He is so caring and attentive, so friendly and welcoming. He makes Gus’s diner our #1 spot. My fiancé and I always say this diner deserves a Michelin star just for Mike alone, he really is a hidden gem! As long as he’s there, we’ll keep coming back for more! I highly recommend this diner over all others, you won’t regret it. Mike has all our gratitude and we’re always so happy to come back to see him! Thank you so much Mike, you are undoubtedly the best at what you do!...

We came here because it was close by to our Airbnb while visiting NYC. As soon as we sat down in the booth, I realized this nondescript little diner was a gem. Our service was fantastic. My son asked for sweet tea (and the menu only says unsweetened). Well, the guy said to us, “I just made a fresh batch so I’ll add some sugar to it.” He made it special just for us, rather than giving us the plain tea and showing us the sugar on the table (which we easily could have and would have done). The pancakes were fluffy and my kids really enjoyed them. The French toast was large and tasty according to my son. I had the tomato and feta omelette with some home fries. They were perfect. I added in some onion and it was so delicious. Everything about this place was exactly what you want from a little locally owned restaurant. If I lived here, this would be a regular spot for a good hearty breakfast....

Had breakfast here with my family over the weekend. Absolutely phenomenal service. The food was amazing as well! This is a very hospitable small business that unfortunately have been going out of business from the pandemic. There is a lot of comments regarding pricing of the food fluctuating, which is 100% warranted! As a hospitality worker in the finance sector, I can say these prices are reasonable and on the lower end of prices considering the costs of items surging nearly 100-300%+ from prepandemic levels. Nevertheless, I look forward to my next visit. Oh, and the hot...

Cash only. Consistently great. No nonsense menu. 2 grown men eating themselves full for under $20 is a great deal. They make a good bacon egg and cheese sandwich for under $5. They were pretty frugal with their jelly and at that, only had grape. I wasn't offered any refills either on coffee either. Asked for water and never received it. So you need to speak up if you want just basic service. Everyone was friendly, however. Bathroom was clean but you you wouldn't want to spend longer than you need to in there. Right below the train stairs, this place is very convenient. I shall return.

cool old school place. on utrecht av. i stopped in for a quick lunch this place reminded me of the times 20 years ago when the world was different, too bad i was alone. the owner is very nice and helpful. i didn't wait long for my order. i took lentil soup - very tasty, i recommend it. and a vegetable omelette with home friese. they have good coffee! i think it's a good place to grab a bite to eat with friends and turn off the phone. i recommend it and bon appetit!
