Came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was quite empty. The waitress was friendly but speaks limited English as expected since this is located in Jackson Heights. I ordered Maracuya juice made with water and it was very tasty. Then I ordered Encebollado Quadruple which consists of 4 different types of seafood - tuna, shrimp, squid, and conch. The dish came out room temperature to warm and the conch was disgustingly bitter. The shrimp was very mushy, there were only a few pieces if squid, and a lot of tuna. I also ordered the Cazuela Mixta which consists of shrimp. This tasted better. Both dishes were presented very beautifully but I would not come back. The dishes also took a long time to come out. They also give you chifles which are plantain chips before you eat but some pieces were soggy. They look very nice in pictures, but not good in taste. By the way, 20% gratuity is automatically added to your bill no matter how many people are eating. You can eat a $5 bowl of soup by yourself and 20% gratuity will be added. No thanks, I will...
Read moreBe aware, they charge a 20% service fee. Other than that, service was ok. The food great and some lacked Ecuadorian flavors. The bandera it's a plate that has guata, seco de chivo, encebollado and shrimp something, not shrimp ceviche. The guata, chivo and encebollado delicious. The encebollado had a faint fishy flavor. Like the fish was old when they cooked it. But it was still good. The shrimp was bad. It had no flavor. It was like shrimp in a cup of water. The corviche was above ok, the empanadas de plátano ok. It was plenty of food. I did enjoy the meal overall. I didn't tip because they already had it added to the bill. Bring cash if you believe they don't deserve 20%. Although they shouldn't include this without posting or letting me know before hand. But it isn't the first restaurant I have had this experience with tip added automatically. Some even charge you q CC transaction fee . Definitely recommend the guata, chivo and...
Read moreI went on a Sunday afternoon with my gf. They were busy but not packed,we sat ourselves and I waited about 20 minutes for the waitress to take my order. First of all it was freezing cold in there! Throughout the entire time everyone in there had not taken off their coats! They had individual personal heaters but it made no difference. Then after asking for a hot chocolate (which at any ecuadorian establishment I expect real ecuadorian chocolate) I received the nasty powder stuff you keep in the cupboard. Which by the way took an additional 25 minutes to get to my table. I ordered the ayaca; they did not have it, the humita, and bolon with cheese. The humita wasn't bad but had a weird vanilla taste but the worst part was that it was half the size of a humita anywhere else! The bolon was the only saving grace about this whole experience and it indeed was okay. Dont...
