The meals I ate were delicious and didn't take long to arrive at my table. The staff is professional. I felt welcome at Jardin de China. The waiters are multilingual; they speak English, Spanish, & Chinese. I went there on a Friday evening (Oct. 7, '22), so there were lots of customers, noise, & activity.
Jardin de China is a cash-only establishment. No credit/debit cards accepted. No Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, etc. available. No NFC. No Cashapp, Zelle, Venmo. Don't even ask about using checks. Cash. Only. There is an ATM-machine on premises though, if you need it.
The lighting is kind of dim, but there are decorations. Red lanterns hanging from the ceiling and the currencies of different countries framed on the walls. When you walk in, tables seating 5 are at the left side. Tables seating 4 are in the middle. Booths are at the right.
As I said, my meals were delicious. I had mixed vegetables sautéed in garlic sauce which comes with a rice dish of your choosing. I chose black beans & rice. So, that's one meal. I then decided to have shrimp with broccoli, also sautéed in garlic sauce, with fried green plantains. Another meal. They kept serving me water. And I had 1 glass of chablis. I couldn't eat everything lol. I was so full. But so pleased.
I won't give Jardin de China 5 stars however, because the prices listed online are not at all what's printed on the menu given to you by the waiter. The prices are misleading. What I have put here is the menu I took on my way out. Which doesn't match what the waiter gave me (the prices are a little higher on that one). I actually paid $11.50 for the mixed veggie meal, $20.75 for the shrimp & broccoli, & $4.75 for the...
Read moreI started going to Jardín de China at age 7. I’m now 35 yrs old. I looked forward to Sunday dinners here, as a kid. I have so many warm memories. I just went back after 5 years and I must say I’m so disappointed. The service was bad and the portions were smaller than I remember. The waiter took our order and never came back. I had to flag him down twice. Once for drinks and the second for the check. My arroz con pollo dominicano didn’t taste anything like it use to (and the rice was soggy). I ordered the steak with beef fired rice for one of my kids and got shrimp fired rice. Luckily she wasn’t the one with the shrimp allergy. It was my son who has the severe shrimp allergy that was sitting across from his sister. At that point, I wanted to walk out. The waiter never offered bread for appetizer or ask if we wanted dessert after we were done with our meal. Lastly, they only accept CASH. Sorry Jardin! I don’t think I can come back...
Read moreUPDATE 7/11/21 This place went from great to average. The prices have gone up. I wouldn't have a problem with that i don't mind paying for good food. But that is the problem, the quality and taste of the food has declined. The service is on the same train as the food quality and they both have left the station. The server could not accommodate one of my food request. They got one of the items wrong,. They didn't provided enough silverware and once we asked for another set their response was it's on the table, but it clearly wasn't. To top it off they only accept Cash. Again this wouldn't be a problem if everything else was good. It is sad to see one of my childhood staples running itself to the ground.
I love this place I have been coming here since I was born. It is a family affair. My son is a very picky eater and this is the one place that he raves about the food. Even the items he refused to...
