My family's experience at Ohana was terrible and stomach-turning. I ate at Ohana on April 22nd, 2017, around 2:00pm. We came here by chance, and I regret it so much in no small part because I had just come from the west coast to see my parents, and - it was my mother's birthday. The service was beyond awful. It was sadistic and depressing.
Firstly, the waitress kept asking us to repeat what we said. She then kept asking if we wanted a large sake instead of a small. "Small," we had to repeat, "Small." She then questioned my order because I just ordered some sushi rolls. But hell, that's not so terrible, is it? But wait! It gets so much more awful. When the Hibachi Chef came to our table he didn't crack a smile, he looked depressed. As this was my first Hibachi experience, I wondered if this was part of his "shtick". That said, I wasn't looking for a show, just a modicum of friendliness. But 5 minutes later, the chef knocked over 2 plates of sauce and a glass of water all over my parents. My father is 83, and walks with a cane. It's very hard for him to stand up. I helped him stand and - get this - no one came over to help us. My husband and I grabbed napkins to clean up, and 1 young woman just stood by the doorway to the kitchen area and stared blankly, as if she had no soul. And when our waitress finally appeared she stood there. I said, "Can you please help out?" (Water was still dripping from the table). She muttered something unintelligible. I said, "Can you please do something, or at least get a mop or something?" (Also I should add that a few minutes earlier, we saw a Chef at another table fling a spatula on a lady's bag, narrowly missing her body by less than a foot).
At some point my father mentioned that he ordered something different for him and for my mother. I pointed this out to our waitress, and she started saying that this was because it was hard to hear because of the exhaust fan or something! Unreal. As if this all wasn't enough, our chef remained quiet. Egg shells got into the eggs that he was stir-frying. And at some point, while cooking, he just pointed at my husband and said, "He love you long time." Then he pointed to my dad and said the same thing to my mother. He said those words in such an uncomfortably weird tone that we had to laugh. But it wasn't funny, it felt horrible, maudlin, and cruel. I had no appetite. I also felt like I needed to watch out for my son because perhaps this Chef was so disgruntled that he might try to hurt us.
When we got our bill, the restaurant merely took off 10%. This is unreal. Please note, that earlier, after I found out the waitress had messed-up our orders, I went and spoke to the manager about it. And I also told him about how the Chef dropped sauce and water all over my parents (he was nowhere to be seen when this happened. I had to go ask someone near the kitchen to find him). You would think the manager would have the decency to take off a discount that meant something, a discount that would pay for - at the very least - dry cleaning. But no, a measly cheap 10%. My guess is that the manager - who wasn't properly managing - didn't want to take off more because then he'd have to explain to his employers all the hell that happened that day. Because my husband wanted to treat my parents to a birthday lunch, and thusly didn't want to make a scene, he didn't say anything about the bill. I was livid. I went to another room to talk to the manager, and I gave him an earful. The waitress joined in and started saying stuff about the exhaust again. The manager then, and only then, started talking money, perhaps because I mentioned that I work as a reporter. But here's the thing - - no amount of refund could compensate for making us all feel so gross. No money will make up for messing up our lunch on my mother's birthday.
The owners of this place need to seriously look at the staff who worked at Ohana in the early afternoon of April 22, 2017. Ultimately the owners of the restaurant are responsible - for...
Read moreQuite frankly, if I was not a member of the civil services I would have probably left without paying. The services offered were not rendered.
I used to frequently come here, but honestly this was the worst experiences I've ever had in any restaurant in my life ever. Not only did they try to scam my bill, they changed items before giving them my card and after giving them my card.
In reverse order: I received my bill, I gave them my card. On the itemized bill prior to handing them my card it did not have a tip; on the itemized bill AFTER returning me my card it has a gratuity bill.(I had a party of 4).
Prior to making my main order I had requested some take away sushi, at the end of the night I had not received my sushi and they attempted to charge it.
It was my mother's birthday and we were being charged for the birthday event, even though we did not receive any cake, ice cream or dessert when we pointed this out we received the saddest little piece of ice cream with a single candle. As part of the deal a photo is included and we reminded the server of this, they hastily pulled out their phone and said "I got it" and took a and then went into their office to quickly print it.(I was charged 15$ for this picture)
The time was around 7pm and we had just received our main meals, we were asked if we wanted a refill on drinks. All of our drinks were full so we declined. Not 2 minutes later, we received our bill, no one had finished eating at this point and no one had even actually finished eating at this point.
I understand that sometimes people have a bad day, the gentleman serving us cut his cooking show very short(based on all of my previous visits here) and he was also very rude to my mother calling her "mamsita" (/honey/ in Spanish) when she requested that he lemon her fish, he refused and then he very quickly left after putting out small portions of the food.
I have never received such poor service in my life. I only came here because my mother has nostalgia for the location and this ruined her birthday night horribly.
Also... it's Sunday night at 7:00pm why are the...
Read moreI giving this rating two stars for one reason, the Shmuck that sat at our table.
First and foremost, the food is very good. Typical Hibachi steakhouse, with a variety of salads and Sushi rolls. Filet mignon was tender, and the shrimp very fresh. Our Hibachi Chef was experienced and had a sense of humor, making it an entertaining show of skills.
The reason I'm giving it a two star rating was my dining experience at the table. We were a party of five, leaving three seats available. They asked us to move from the center of the grill over to the sides of the grill in order to accommodate three other patrons. Understood, but we were initially comfortable. The other party sitting at the table weren't pleasant, not a big deal because we weren't there to make friends. One of the diners became agitated because he didn't receive his drinks minutes after he placed the order. His obnoxiousness continued throughout the meal, snapping his fingers to the Chef, asking him why it was taking so long to cook the rice. As the Chef cooked the steak, he requested that his steak be cooked separately because he didn't want his steak cooked with the others. Finally he cursed the waiter because they didn't automatically bring him a doggie bag to wrap the scraps he had left over.
We ignored the obviously miserable individual, but the icing on the cake was that he proceeded to complain about terrible service, and was given his meal(s) for FREE! My total was just over $200. which I feel should have been reduced for the inconvenience of having to sit with Mr. Magoo celebrating my niece's birthday. But No, I paid, with gratuities, and Mr. Schmuck walked away with not one but three free meals, and a scrap bag.
For this, they get a two...
