Update on my review: I see the owner been responding to reviews with excuses for bad customer service and horrible food. In response to his comment about the king crabs being 90 and not 160 I was told that price by one of his servers after I was told a takeout menu wasn’t available. The owners is saying be patient which I was waiting more than 2 hours for food that didn’t taste good . I don’t mind spending money on food if it taste good. My baked macaroni and collared greens that I cook at home taste better than seafood kings.I don’t understand how you open a business without your staff being trained and prepared to deal With a large crowd, what did the owner expect advertising his business on the news. I read a article about seafood kings saying the executive chef is his son that’s went to culinary school and been cooking since young who’s only 21. If true, that explains why the food don’t taste good and the lack of consistency. The chef don’t have enough experience. Also I geared they have another restaurant in queens . I looked at the prices which are a lot cheaper than the prices at the city island location. I’m not here to tear don’t black businesses that’s why I came out to support the restaurant but I expect good service and good quality food especially for the price which seafood kingz lacked.Best of luck to the owner and hopefully he could fix the issues moving forward to have a successful business. I saw this restaurant being advertised on the news and the food looked good plus it was black-owned so I took a trip to city to give it a try and support a black-owned business. The first red flag was the place was overcrowded and there was a lady online in front of me complaining that she was waiting 2 hours for her takeout order She wanted her money back because she was told the wait for the food was 20 minutes Finally, I get to the front of the line after a 15-minute wait I ordered Mac and cheese fried chicken and collard greens My son ordered fish and shrimp with fries I was told the order would be ready in 20 minutes I left and came back 40 minutes later my order still wasn't ready the staff looked overwhelmed the place was crowed I waited 2 hours for my food and the food still wasn’t ready at this point I was frustrated the owner told me he would check to see when the food would be ready 15 minutes later My order and a few other people that been waiting orders came out I was hungry and aggravated I just wanted to get home relax and eat at this point I get home and my order was incomplete I paid $68.79 for Mac and cheese fried chicken and collard greens my second order was whiting and shrimp with fries way overpriced and it was nasty 🤢 so disgusting I gagged and almost barfed 🤮 I was disappointed the collard greens were plain no flavor the chicken had too much seasoning and was undercooked The Mac and cheese was ok they cooked it with the wrong noodles The prices are ridiculous I originally wanted king crabs when I checked the menu it was 160 other restaurants in city Island sell king crabs for 85 to 100 dollars I frequently visit city and I’ve been to most of the restaurants out there seafood king's has the worst food and service out of all the restaurants I have been to out there I was excited to support a black-owned business but I won’t be returning to...
Read moreGreat new restaurant that happens to be Black owned and I believe may be the first in City Island. The place is small, welcoming, with vibrant colors and staff. The cook is young and gifted in the kitchen. The seafood prices were a little steep in my opinion (king crabs, lobsters). I don't know if it's related to inflation right now or because it's a new business. I had the steamed Salmon & Broccoli ($30) & added for $5 more the Rice and Peas. A basket of cornbread came with the meal. When I say for me it was some of the best steamed salmon I had in a long time. 🤗🥰😋 The salmon was spiced/seasoned just right and was not overcooked or undercooked. It was a nice portion size that wouldn't disappoint you. It was moist, juicy and perfectly seasoned with actual spices, not any bottled stuff. The cornbread was soft and moist and not overly sweet. We ordered extra to take to go. I was full when I finished. We also ordered appetizers that were decent prizes & I'm told were good by my family. My family even ordered desert which ranged from chocolate cake, carrot cake and cheesecake that they all seemed very happy with. We were a family party of 8 who wanted to support a small restaurant business for Mother's Day. My mom heard from a co-worker that City Island now has a Black owned restaurant, so of course we had to show support. City Island overall is still one of the best places in the Bronx to get Seafood and the waiters/staff in the various restaurants make the experiences great. So continue to support all the restaurants/or all the ones whom you've had a great experience in or who are OGs & been there for years (ie: sammys). Welcome to City Island Seafood Kingz ‼ 🎊🎊 Thank U for giving my family a great first experience and feeding us well this Mothers Day (5/8/22). I hope your restaurant has a long life in that community. 🙏 Shout out to "Woods" 👑 our host/waitress who took care of us, with a smile on her face, willingness to be of service and treated us like cousins stopping by for good food & social communion. 😊😂 Also shout out to the young man (with dreads, I apologize for not remembering your name) who was also pleasant and who had Woods back when the restaurant starting getting really busy. He made sure we got our food & also helped make sure our table was straight & had what we needed. The staff overall and the restaurant made a fantastic first impression on me and my family. We were proud to see a black owned business there and we will surely be back. I encourage everyone to try their food. There was a mixture of diverse people, who enjoyed themselves there. Fyi my SIL was here visiting from the UK. She took a doggie bag home with mac & cheese & cornbread. So there ya go. 😂😊 Enjoy/Bon Appetit ‼ 🍽🍷
If you're not paying attention you will miss it. It's not too far once you come of the expressway. It's right after Baskin Robbins & across the street from where the water &...
Read moreTried Seafood Kingz for the first time, and the entire experience was disappointing to say the least. We walked in at 12:48pm, and upon seating ourselves we noticed none of the 8 booths were served. The restaurant was understaffed and clearly overwhelmed, so we patiently waited to put our order in. First red flag was when the wait staff said he had to find out if they had water. We ordered everything at once (since we had more than enough time to figure it out). For an hour we watched as delivery after delivery left the restaurant. As we waited the entire dining area collectively spoke about the lack of attention from staff. We all were there to support small and black owned businesses, but were all frustrated. Our four plates did not come out together. My order did not come w the fries I asked for, and brought it to the owners attention. He said IF I wanted them it would be out in 3 minutes. I declined and respectfully said we had been waiting for over an hour and doubted the fries would be out that quickly. The owners response was that we needed to be patient and understanding, to which I took offense to because we all waited patiently and had not been rude in any way, but because I empathized, I let it go. THEN 20 minutes into eating, the wait staff brings out an order of dry chicken wings. The order was a basket of wings, catfish and shrimp and the wings came out 20 minutes after!? To make things worse, the owner never comes back out to speak with us, but instead sends out a different wait staff (this is the 3rd person we’re dealing with within a 2-hour window). The young man was apologetic and so sweet, but when we asked for the check he said he’d needed to take down our orders again and create the receipt. Very frustrating. About 30 minutes later and we’re still waiting for the check and our credit card. The wait staff verbally told us the amount and said he was charging the card. We never saw an itemized receipt or anything proper. They charged us $160 for food we waited 60+ minutes for. The side portions are small and everything in general is overpriced. When the owner finally took our card to be charged I explained that not once did he come out and ask us about our service, our food, or offer any gesture to his patient customers. Did I mention two tables walked out on them? They didn’t care at all. I give them a 1 star because the breading on their seafood was good. Everything else was mediocre soul food. Had the owner been more responsive, and catered to his diners as opposed to the delivery/ to-go, I’d give it a higher rating and even return. Good...
