It’s a shame how an employees attitude and actions can have such an effect on a restaurant. I have been going to Tony’s for over 20years, stood by the establishment thru hurricane sandy, fire, and most recently covid. But my experience today, has completely soured this establishment and I will no longer be a customer. I’ll explain.
Today, my sister and I were waiting in line, per covid limits I understood the need for such precautions, limiting the number of customers in the restaurant. In fact, I appreciate and applaud it. Anyway, 20mnts in a line that seemed to not move at all I started to notice as the front security let in certain people and others would tell to get in line. After 20mnts and counting, obviously I was taken aback and a little annoyed at this so I finally went up to the security to ask why he was letting certain people in, only to be met with attitude and a “mind your business and get back in line or you won’t come in” I was completely taken aback. First of all, how is that not my business I’m literally waiting patiently outside for over 20mnts with a whole line of other hungry people, whilst some individuals are just being admitted without the wait. After further persistence, The security then informed me that those he was letting in without wait were Regulars, as if that was enough justification for priority. I’m sorry What?! Let’s be clear, i understand the value of regulars, but for someone to be that blatantly dismissive of my inquiry and reason for annoyance, hitting me with a mind your business, is just so utterly infuriating. I’m not sure if it’s restaurant policy or not, but I don’t think that prioritizing anyone other than elderly or disabled is justified. I thought this was a family restaurant, not a club. Regular or not we are all paying customers who consciously choose Tony’s out of all the other numerous restaurants on the island. Literally driving through the entire island to the very end, just to be met with such Disregard. No one likes to wait in line, I get that. I have never encountered such disrespect when simply asking why something is happening, I am just beyond myself. So fine, I’ll mind my business at another restaurant. You may not have lost a “regular” but you sure lost a...
Read moreThe cheapest spot on City Island to get some fresh fried, boiled, or raw seafood. They're open until 1 am on the weekends, and I decided to go at 10 pm on a Saturday night - CHAOS. The parking lot is crowded so finding a spot may take a while, but it's not a bad idea to have someone run inside to place your order while youre parking (for take out or for dining in). There are 3 lines when you get inside - one for fried, one for broiled, and the shortest line is usually the one for raw seafood. There are security/bouncers that instruct you where to go and do their best to keep things moving smoothly because there was a ton of people inside waiting to order. There is also a line for drinks from the bar that can be long too, but before you get on it, one of the security guards asks for ID which is a good thing.
I ordered my fried shrimp and got some raw clams for my husband. Despite the crowd and long line, we got out of there in a decent amount of time. We didnt plan to dine in the restaurant, but if we did, it would have been tough to do so because there were no tables or seats available. The place was clean, the seafood was fresh but my fries were soggy. Look up the menu online before you visit, so you know what you want and know what line you'll need to get on to save yourself some time. I'll definitely visit again, just not on a late...
Read moreSo last Wednesday my friends and i decided to pay Tony's a visit. I got the fried lobster tail and fried shrimp combo. I also got half a dozen oysters. After eating immediately after i started feeling really sick but i figured i just ate too much and my friends and i continued our drive to the beach. After 10 minutes of driving i had to ask my friend to stop the car as i ran out and immediately started projectile vomiting (it was not a pretty sight to see on the side of the road). After that i couldnt even keep water down and had several other "accidents" happen before i could safely get driven back to Brooklyn. I had not eaten that day and i was really excited to visit city island as i haven't been there in years after leaving the Bronx to Brooklyn so i was so sad i got food poisoning from there. Very traumatic experience, would probably not go to that specific restaurant again. I'm 100% sure it was a bad oyster. I was out of work for two days. My advice would be to triple check your food for spoilage or cross contamination before serving it to people. Also the staff was so rude me and my friends were so astonished we just started laughing bc we felt so awkward that we were being...
