I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant under the new ownership. The current owner, who I learned is from Tito's Transmission across the street, treats customers with a level of disrespect that’s unacceptable. During my visit, I had already ordered my food and was waiting for my friend to finish their order when the owner walked in and began questioning me in an accusatory tone: “What are you doing here?” “Did you order food?” He even said, “This is not a place to hang out,” despite the fact that I had only been there for about 8 minutes.
The atmosphere is no longer welcoming or community-oriented like it was when Manny owned the place. While the stew chicken, stew beef, rice, and plantains are fresh and decent, most of the other food isn’t worth trying. It’s also clear that the hardworking women in the kitchen are the ones keeping the place running.
What’s most frustrating is the new owner’s assumption that every white customer is a drug addict, simply because of the location. Even if someone were struggling, as long as they are paying customers, they deserve to be treated with respect. Unfortunately, the owner’s rude and judgmental attitude has ruined what used to be a great neighborhood spot.
Unless you’re only stopping in for the stew dishes, I’d recommend avoiding this...
Read moreDiners can be hit and miss. This one was a hit. We arrived for a late breakfast on a Sunday morning. The parking lot was full which is usually a good indication of a popular establishment. The decor is modern and there are large seating areas. The restaurant was busy but we were seated right away. The service was excellent. There was always someone available to fill a glass or remove a dirty plate. Now for the food. We had breakfast and the portions were enormous. The food was delicious. The quality was good and the food was tasty. The fresh squeezed orange juice was amazing. We will definitely return when we visit our...
Read moreIncredible. I went to Manny's for mangú, cheese and onions, as I do not eat meat. I was charged $10, even though I've been charged $8 for the past year that I've been going there. The older guy that works there was incredibly RUDE and called me "crazy" for saying the meal is $8. The meal is $10 with meat and eggs, which I do not eat. Also, this is the same guy that prepares food with NO gloves. Go in anytime and watch him handle food without gloves. By the way, he also charged me an additional 40 cents as a "non-cash adjustment." To top it off, the mangú was old and the location smelled of a dirty bathroom....
