Modupe African & American Restaurant — Restaurant in Newark

Okay so I found out about this place , really from doing uber eats as a driver. Even though I past a few times because my friend who does my hair lives I'm the area.. Needless to say I told the Lady who cooks by her self ( which is good because you get the same taste all the time.) I told her I will come back some time. Now this is an African restaurant everything looks good that I've smells good. The fried shrimp are some of the best shrimp you may try ever. They are seasoned to perfection perfectly fried the better is good.. This better many seafood spots, soul food spots.. They beat the famous light house in New York which was once really good but they fell out in my eyes.. so everything I go over there I get the ten peace 🍤 shrimp with fries or buy it self. Always the same quality and exceptional taste. I'm never dissatisfied. Today we went out all out and tried the crab Macaroni&cheese and Lobster Macaroni & cheese and they both hit aswell no complaints with a nice portion of crab meat and lobster considering your only paying 13$ a plate 😋. Ten shrimp I believe is 12$ trust me well worthed!! Next time I'm going to try some jollof rice or her version of friend rice and chicken. My only suggestion is call in advance because it is only person there . And that is the wonderful Lady who takes the order and cooks. Again I love the shrimp , I've been many places looking for good shrimp and fried fish. Many for short. I'm also from New York but I now I live in New Jersey.. That's my experience with Modupe. First off the place is spotless in regards to cleanliness. The owner must be a germaphobe because when I tell you, you can eat off the floor😅.

Let’s move onto the food and hospitality. The owner is very welcoming and hospitable, she’s very polite and patient even when you don’t know what you would like to eat yet. The food🤤🤤🤤🤤I have yet to eat something that doesn’t taste great, I’m a big fan of fufu with anything basically that just me. But she does have jollof rice as well which is peppery and spicy which I like. The soups, my goodness I’m all for egusi I can’t eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner😬. The tripe soups, which are the intestines of cows and sheep combined with the correct seasoning will have you feasting like a tribe.

My family and I were looking to have some Nigerian food for Saturday night and Modupe did not disappoint. My brother normally orders from here but everyone else In the family hadn't. I'm so glad my brother put us on. the food is cook fresh once you order y'all! Yeah there will be a wait for your food but who wouldn't want to wait for some fresh, cook on order food! Honestly it was worth the wait. My brother had his usual Gbegiri with Amala, I had fried rice with assorted meat ( assorted meat comes with one fish, one beef, and one turkey) and plantains which was soo on point everything had the right amount of flavor, my mom had the same as well. My sis and dad had egusi with assorted meat and they were licking their fingers. Honestly this is my family new go to spot for Nigerian food. Food is fresh and delicious.
