The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille — Restaurant in Newark

I’ve always enjoyed the food but tonight even good food couldn’t make up for the service. My husband and I brought really good friends from out of state here because it was close by and I shamelessly love Greene Turtle’s crab dip.

Our waitress was pretty horrible. If it had been busy, I totally would have understood, but counting us there were only 4 parties in the whole restaurant (aside from the bar patrons). To start one member of our party had ordered a particular beer but was brought a different one. We ignored this because he was still satisfied with his beer and chalked it up to her not hearing correctly. We waited 30 minutes or so for our appetizers. And then probably another 30 minutes for our entrees after that, which all came out incorrect to some degree. Some minor things, tomato when it was asked to be removed, blue cheese when ranch was asked, but the kicker was getting a crab quesadilla when we ordered crab cakes without slaw.

Between all of the waiting our server hadn’t come back to check in on us. She assured us that crab cakes were taken off the bill. When she came back with the bill I didn’t have a chance to look over before she took my payment, aside from the total of $106. When she came back with the signature slip, the total was now $118 and change. But there was no itemized copy of the bill anymore. She also hovered over my shoulder while I was signing and leaving the tip making me pretty uncomfortable and pressured to leave a more generous tip than originally planned.

I enjoy their food so much, however I’m not sure when or if I’ll be returning to...

I will never visit this location again. On 05/29 @ around 9:30pm my family and i went to this location to celebrate my brothers Graduation. We arrived with a party of 14 , and was told that there were only 2 serves. We informed the host that we wouldn't mind waiting to order, due to the fact we had a large party and there was already two parties of 7-8 people that were seated. The host suggested we try BWW or Santa Fe on main street! Moments later she came back stating we could sit in the bar/island area, we declined this space due to having small children with us. She then offered an open party room, which would accommodate us. The 2 host began to be very rude, and i told my party i no longer wanted to eat there and would be calling the district manager. As we all know, you should never eat from an establishment where the wait staff are rude or if you get into a disagreement with them.NO TELLING WHAT THEY WILL DO TO YOUR FOOD WHILE ITS BEING PREPARED!!! The manager came to the front host podium, and stated " I HEARD YOU WANTED A MANGER WHAT DO YOU WANT?" And that we could not sit in the party room that was offered. I informed him that i did not want him i wanted the contact info for district or regional manager. He then told his host that he is and i quote " TRYING T GET RID OF US!"

When arriving to this location with my mother. Looking to get a nice meal and something to drink, treating an early mother’s day. We went to sit at the bar making it through the entire restaurant, while passing several associates. We sat and waited to be served... A few minutes go by an not one glance in our direction. We then decided to sit at a booth or table. Making our way back to the hostess stand to ask to be seated. We were than notified that the entire restaurant was closing in just under an hour. After driving 30 minutes from Maryland. We did not expect to be practically kicked out. With no notice but a peace of paper taped to the door. This establishment and the employees get NEGATIVE 5 review. Paying customers should not have to wait to be told they can’t even be served. Feeling like complete fools walking out. Complete negligence on the staffs part. Customer that CAN NOT be served should be notified by the HOSTESS STANDING AT THE DOOR ON HER PHONE. I understand the restaurant was booked or rented for evening. But there were a few people walking out disgruntled. Poor poor staffing. Won’t be coming to this location again. And will be recommending Applebee’s right down the road! For they post events on social media and notified customers of any early closings...
