Parking was easy, strip mall, parking on the right side of the plaza. This is a medium sized restaurants with several booths, tables, and a large bar area to choose from. This is a new restaurant in the area, but not the only location in DE. They have another restaurant in New Castle, and one in Jersey I believe. The place has a modern, clean, festive look inside. Service was a little rough at times, but I understand some of these folks haven't worked in a Mexican Restaurant before, and they just opened a couple days ago.
I ordered a Modelo draft. It wasn't very cold, but I got through it. The beer in the cooler were much better. I asked about some the tequila prices, and they were much higher than most places. I ended up going with Cuervo since it was at $6. They had Clase Azul Repo for $35 a shot, which is like Miami prices. I know when I visited the other location in New Castle, I got that same shot for $10....I did mention this to them. I'd rather just goto El Jefe and drink instead.
Chips & Salsa!!!! Nope...they are on the menu for $3, so we went a different route.
We ordered the Chori Queso ($9): Mexican sausage with melted cheese. Served with chips. The chips are house made, tasty, perfect chips for me. The chori queso had a thin, soupy consistency, and was loaded heavily with chorizo. It was a little bland to me at first, until we added some of that orange salsa. A couple spoon fulls made this stuff really pop. I could drink it after that. I came back next day and did the same thing.
We ordered Taquitos Dorados (7): 3 taquitos split in half, served with pico, and sour cream. Fried good in the middle, a bit overdone on the ends. The chicken was tasty, in the middle. I'd probably just skip these though.
We ordered tamales ($2) choosing the Rajas (tom, onion, cheese), Salsa Verde (Chicken), and Salsa Roja (pork). Rajas...had a nice creamy texture to the inside, the masa was a little dry, but good. Salsa Verde...was ok, a little dry for me, had a nice spicy kick to it. Roja...this was my jam. The pork melted in my mouth and the sauce really kept this one moist. I'd recommend this one all day.
I ordered a carnitas sope ($4). Excellent sope! The canitas had a nice char and flavorful meat. The tortilla was soft and delicious. All the ingredients in this dish were well balanced and loaded with flavors.
I ordered Torta De Milanesa De Pollo ($9): Breaded chicken with tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, jalapenos, beans, and cheese. The seeded bread is huuuuge, and soft all the way. I would've preferred the bread a little toasted on the inside to give it a little crunch. The chicken was chopped into small chunks and not very proportionate to the size of the bread. You could use half the size of bread with the same amount of food inside. It made me say...Where's the beef? The flavor was ok, all of that bread kind of killed the flavor for me.
I ordered tacos choosing cabeza, chorizo, pastor, and carnitas. Cabeza...melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned, so soft, amazing. The tortillas were serviceable, switched to 1 tortilla to prevent dryness. Chorizo...no char, a little taste of cinnamon in there, not enough grease for me. Pastor...amazing flavors, nice char to the meat, near perfect taco. I'd prefer a little pineapple up in there too. Carnitas...good flavor, some of the pork was fried a little too hard in some spots. The part that weren't charred were excellent, but I would've enjoyed a little bit of fat in there. Everyone is...
Read moreLet me start by saying I never write reviews unless I have an amazing or terrible experience, which you can tell from my profile. I felt compelled to write this after coming in for father's day, I ordered the chile relleno and enchilada off of the vegetarian menu and was given meat in my enchilada, which wasn't ideal but they fixed it. The real issue was with my pineapple jalapeno margarita, there were bugs in it, I took a picture of 3 that are attached to this review, but there were a couple more still floating in my drink when I called the server over. He first started by suggesting the jalapeno tequila may come with bugs in it, and I was really disgusted by this. He said he could change my margarita for me but I asked to just have it off of the check. I then saw him argue with the bartender. He checked the ingredients for the margarita at the bar and found that the pineapple juice had tons of flies in it. First of all I feel that I shouldn't have had to ask for this drink to be taken off of the bill, and the bartender should have apologized but instead she said nothing and would not make eye contact as my dad and I left the restaurant. I don't like to be this person but this was a terrible and gross experience - and I did still tip the server 20% because it's not his restaurant and he isn't the bartender...but I would never recommend this place to anyone. If I were an employee and a customer told me they found bugs in their drink and showed me, I would have been horrified and so apologetic. I'm still shocked that wasn't the reaction as I'm writing...
Read moreIf i could give negative stars i would. My friend and i went there tonight thinking it was $1 tacos. Once we sat down and asked they waiter he said they no longer do the $1 only 3 for $5. We said no big deal and ordered our tacos. An hour later our food comes out, we ate and went to pay with our cards when the waiter then tells us cash only for the tacos. We were surprised because he didn’t say anything before during or after we ordered until we finished our meal. When i asked why he didn’t say anything earlier, he said we should have known and if we don’t have cash we can pay full price with our cards. He walked away and i asked for a manager. The manager was worse. We explained the situation and why we were annoyed because we were never told the cash rule. He stayed we should have known because it’s been a while and everyone knows. I asked for a sign that says they do cash only for taco specials. He told me the menu says restrictions apply. When i asked how we were suppose to know that meant cash he again said we should have known. I have never dealt with an establishment that put the fault on the customer. We had to gather up the change we had to make the payment or be forced to pay full price when we expected it to be cheaper. Beyond annoyed and will continue to tell people how this once great place has turned to a horrible experience.
As an Update: I have tried to reach the restaurant via email and Facebook messenger... I can see they read my messages but no response. See picture...
