Good burger. Chili topping a plus, salad was fresh. Pleasant atmosphere. Service not fantastic for a person eating alone. I always tip 20% but here I always have to ask for refills, a napkin, and my last visit the service was null, she didn't check on me once all the while bouncing to everyone seated around me who were doubles or more. I plan to return but if happens again I doubt I'll go back, is too frustrating. Update: two months later I returned with a guest. This time so I wouldn't be overlooked I seated myself at the booth by bar. Heat from equipment and lack of springs in either seat made it somewhat unpleasant but I was seen everytime a server passed to and from bar. I still had to get my own napkin and utensils. I had a salad, which was fresh and plentiful and chicken salad sandwich on toasted bread. It was tasty, a good balance of mayonnaise and chicken- not too heavy on mayo. My lunch partner had the burger with chili. I had a bite and it was delicious. Chili was a nice compliment to burger and burger was cooked properly to order. Coincidentally we had same former server who was pleasant and did offer refills. I don't understand the lack of placement of fundamentals needed to eat with but can only assume is not stressed to servers. Not a deal breaker for me since service and food were overall good, I know now to ask for utensils and napkins. I...
Read moreThe Grill on Main* is hands down the worst dining experience I’ve ever had—a perfect storm of incompetence, dishonesty, and outright racism.
First, the service was abysmal. Our server ignored us for most of the meal, only showing up to rush us or get orders wrong. When we politely pointed out that we never received part of our order, instead of apologizing, the staff argued with us and tried to charge us for food we never got. That’s not a mistake—that’s a scam.
But the real kicker? The blatant racism. While other (white) tables were greeted warmly, seated promptly, and checked on regularly, our group was treated like an inconvenience. The difference in service was impossible to ignore, and when we called it out, management shrugged it off like it was no big deal.
The food? Overpriced and mediocre, but at this point, that’s the least of their problems. The Grill on Main doesn’t deserve a single cent of anyone’s money. If you value your time, dignity, or basic respect,...
Read moreThis historic location was built as a pharmacy. The building's history is posted on the walls and demonstrated by a window in the wall. Service was attentive, even on a busy Friday night. They made a fresh batch of coffee when I ordered a cup. Early guests were locals, including several families. The Newberry Opera House, around the corner, performance began at 8 PM and show attendees started filling in the empty seats just after 6 PM. Coffee, soda and pink lemonade refills are free. The simple food is close to homemade. My burger was OK - not much taste. Yet the lettuce and tomato slice was fresh. The tomato meat sauce on just cooked spaghetti was more tasty. All the booth seats were covered with bits, crumbs, goo, droplets, etc. because servers are not wiping them down between guests but rather swiping the table mess onto the seats and floor. There were black ants crawling around my booth bench, and on me, after a few minutes. Next visit, I will...
