Stopped in here on a whim after another event in town...if there was ever a reason to make a trip over to Newfane (I live in Saxtons River), Fat Crow is it. Easily one of the best restaurants of any kind within 50mi. We ordered 3 different pizzas, the pretzels (oh man, the pretzels!), and a salad. It was all FANTASTIC.
I grew up in the NYC area and have eaten A LOT of pizza in my day...this is some of the best around. Orchard Hill Bakery in Alstead and Fat Crow in a dead heat at the top of my list. A handful of awesome specialty pies on the menu or make your own. I modified a margherita with mushrooms and caramelized onions. Delish.
The pretzels, highly recommended. The horseradish sauce that comes with them was amazing.
Looking around, not a single plate that came out looked like a miss. Burgers looked awesome, fries hand cut and perfectly cooked. Their salads, also great.
Drink selection had something for everyone. The beer list was awesome, not because it was pages long, but because the offerings were high quality and reasonably priced.
Worth mentioning, the prices. TOTALLY REASONABLE. And I'm saying that based on my knowledge of what you would get for similar money at each nearby towns best eatery. Fat Crow isn't cheap, but it's cheap for what it is. If that makes sense.
Oh and the staff! Everyone was super friendly and attentive, the food came out within a reasonable amount of time with every table in the place full. Clearly a well-run establishment focused on the COMPLETE restaurant experience. They checked every box I have and I can't wait to revisit, I can hear the veggie burger and eggplant fries...
Read moreWe travel to NH & VT every 4 weeks or so and we make a day of it. That means looking for a new cool restaurant each time.
Sadly, for the past several months, we have tried and tried multiple restaurants and ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONE has been a disappointed...until this past weekend.
I searched about a 25 mile radius of the Brattleboro, VT area for unique restaurants. After a couple hours I found the Fat Crow and sent the information to my wife. She happily agreed to try it.
What a GREAT choice! Just looking around the restaurant, it has a great welcoming & eye-catching feeling to it.
Not only did they have many interesting items on the menu, but they actually HAD everything on the menu. So many times we've stopped at a restaurant based solely on their menu. However, when we ordered what we had been excited to try for weeks, we were told that they're out of that menu item. What a letdown.
That changed this past weekend.
We ordered the mussels, clam chowder, steak, and pork tacos. The mussels were very good. The "Award Winning" clam chowder was just that! Wow!!! Her pork tacos were awesome and my steak was PHENOMENAL!
Behind the bar is a really cool looking pizza oven and we considered buying a pizza (lots of cool choices for pizzas too!) just to take home. After contemplating a few minutes we agreed to save the pizza for our next trip to NH & VT, because we enjoyed the Fat Crow so much we're going there for our next trip.
If you haven't tried the Fat Crow...try it,...
Read moreFirst visit. We ordered there clam chowder, Margherita pizza (just mozzarella, sauce and tomatoes) and there pretzels. Clam chowder was great, best local chowder around to be honest. However our pizza was rushed, and undercooked, I don't understand how a thin crust flame fired pizza can be doughy but it was. We were unable to enjoy our preztles with dip because of several squiggly hairs in our small container of cheese dip, and the mustard seed dip tastes like straight cleaning chemicals. Server was more than friendly and engaging which was nice! Clam chowder 10/10 Pizza 4/10 Preztles get a 0 due to someone shaving there face in my food pretty much, and they're mustard seed dip tastes like no other mustard seed dip I've had (in a very bad way)
We more than likely won't be returning due to the hair issue. 1 hair every now and then is whatever and expected in food service but several in 1 dish? It was gross and unsanitary and not acceptable given price point of food. I shouldn't be pulling your chefs hair out of my teeth. I bet the cheese dip is batch made so you also served the rest of the restaurant beard hair cheese the other night. Most of the staff is heavily bearded and long haired and they need to be wearing hair nets and beard nets after this incident or get a haircut and shave. Most restaurants I've managed or worked at - this is mandatory,...
