There are a few strong points and a few weak points here.
Update 12/27/19: The kadhai vegetable gravy is no longer on the menu and what they made for me last week was very different from the original that I had.
I ordered the kadai vegetable spicy with a lachha parantha.
The kadhai vegetable was tasty. Could have been spicier and with less paneer in exchange for more vegetables in quantity and variety. My suggestion is they consider adding baby corn to the vegetable and increase the quantity is green/red peppers, reducing some of the paneer.
However, they clearly do not know how to make a lachha parantha as it was too white (due to high use is maida/refined flour) instead of being on the brown side from using whole wheat flour. Further the lachha parantha had uncooked flour completely circling the inside resulting in a dry and unsettling taste. This is not normal.
Thinking they lacked the skill for it, I ordered a simple plain naan for replacement instead (which they offered at no charge). If you look at my picture, it basically looked like a blown naan (or a roasted bhatura for comparison) without any of the basic characteristics, such as a flat base with crispy bubbles, of an naan that comes from a tandoor.
The wait staff are excellent. Very accommodating and courteous.
Also full points for excellent presentation of achar and onions. The achar is your typical generic mixed vegetable pickle which went very well with the food.
tl;dr this is the best Indian restaurant in the area but don't have high expectations from the...
Read moreMy wife and I tried Tiffin (Newtown Square location) today. I can tell you for sure - we found our new favorite place! I would like to share a review with my honest opinion.
To start of - the staff working there are super friendly and professional. In fact, so much so, that we ended up talking to them a lot while there - made us feel very welcomed. Added to the fun.
The food! Holy moly! To start the meal, we had the Cauliflower appetizer - it was to die for. You must try this stuff! I could not believe how much we both loved the appetizer. It was a little spicy, but a good level - enough to feel a zing, but not burst into flames! :)
My wife had a lamb Rogan Josh and I had a shrimp curry pot (highly recommend both). The spices, flavor, presentation, portion and taste, on both (we shared), was amazing. I have eaten in Indian all over the country, as I travelled as a consultant for work (for too many years). Tiffin is the real deal. One word - delicious.
The time from when we ordered, to receiving the appetizer and lunches was perfect timing. Some restaurants practically bring the appetizer with the meal - not here, it was a nice pace, relaxed, no rush.
In my opinion, this is the BEST Indian available in the area. We will certainly be back soon - and often. Try Tiffin - you...
Read moreI stopped by with my toddler on our way home to grab dinner to take home. I asked one of the employees there which of the breads did not have dairy in them and he showed me, I ordered that plus two orders of samosas, lamb something with rice, a mango Lassi, and a guava juice. We asked the guy at the register (guessing the owner) for our two drinks. When our food was ready, the owner comes over to me and says I only paid for one drink and I told him no two. He showed me a mango juice that was rang up which wasn't even something I ordered. If he had been more polite, I would not have told them to pull the three dollars I gave them for a tip to put it towards the drink they had missed. I would have understood that English was clearly not the employees first language, and he didn't understand me, then I'd have given the additional $5.30 for the drink. I also found out when I got home and opened the bag that the bread was missing, but it also looked like that was not included on the receipt so it was fine that they did not receive anymore of my money. I will definitely not be returning and do...
