I live around the corner from Rocket Slice and have been walking past it for the better part of 5 months waiting and waiting for it to open because we desperately needed a good pizza joint around here. And then they opened (soft opening that's been a soft opening for at least 3 weeks now)! I wanted to like this place sooo much. I love NY style pizza (who doesn't??) and living in Toledo for 5 years, have come to love Detroit style too. Anyway, I've given it two shots now and I'm just disappointed. It was really underwhelming. 1st order was an XL NY style with half pepperoni and well done (I like a non-soggy bottom crust and experience tells me to order well done just so it's not soggy). What I received was an XL pizza, full pepperoni, cheese in the middle like a target and giant bubbles. Oh - and very soggy crust. I chalked this up to soft open mistakes and decided to give it another try tonight. This time I ordered Detroit stye and garlic knots! Super excited! Then I opened it and first thing I noticed is that this is NOT Detroit style - it's Chicago style shaped like a rectangle. Sauce goes under the cheese in Detroit!!! Never have I had Detroit style with all the sauce on top - only time the sauce is on top is if you order extra and then there is still sauce between the cheese and crust. Detroit stye is all about the crust - thick, fluffy, buttery - from edge to edge. Here, the middle was flat and doughy. Next the garlic knots which LOOK delicious until you go to grab them and they are cold. Not sitting around and maybe the warmer wasn't on cold, I'm talking sitting in the fridge for an hour cold. Literally refrigerated. I have no clue why they would do this.
What's good are the ingredients - the ingredients seem fresh, the sauce is excellent but the execution is poor. Like I said, I really want to like this place so I'll give it one more shot after the soft opening and concider these two orders as soft open mishaps. Once they are open full stop, I'll try again - NY style - and hope they've worked out the kinks.
Last note - service was really good. Place is clean and inviting, website is good and easy...
Read moreHaving grown up in Lincolnwood -- my dad and a great part of my heart are still there -- I am pleased to see the addition of a kosher pizza place on a street location I've passed countless times in my life. But it's not just its convenience that keeps us ordering from Rocket Slice Pizza! The app is incredibly user friendly -- so thorough and easy to use -- and when it tells you the time your food will be ready, you can trust it! That said, the pizza itself is delicious. The New York variety is not greasy, and for those of us who went to IU and survived finals on Noble Roman (I wasn't always kosher), the Detroit is a walk down memory lane, but better! Just tried the cracker crust and everyone at our little party loved it! Still have the Chicago deep dish to try; I think and hope I'm saving the best for last, but I intend to order all offerings from Rocket for years to come! That is, I hope this business thrives and I hope you'll help my family in...
Read moreWe used Rocket Slice Pizza for our Shavuot Dinner & Learning program and couldn’t have been happier. I picked up 13 deep dish pizzas at 2:45 PM for a 5:30 PM event, and they truly went above and beyond. As I arrived, they were finishing up the pizzas fresh and kept them on a hot plate while I waited. I was worried they might cool down too much before the event, but they loaned me a pizza storage bag. which kept everything hot and fresh until serving time (and yes, I’ll be returning it this week!).
Inside, the team was super friendly, accommodating, and professional from start to finish. And the pizza? Outstanding. The deep dish reminded me of Giordano’s—rich, cheesy, and perfectly baked but with the bonus of being fully kosher. The vegetarian pepperoni and sausage were so flavorful that no one missed the meat, and the veggie and cheese pies were just as big a hit.
Rocket Slice helped make our holiday dinner a success. We’ll definitely be...
