Buona — Restaurant in Niles Township

This was my second time at Buona Beef. I ordered a hot dog which was good but really no different than places such as Dear Frank's. I also ordered the new Rainbow ice cream. Besides the unusual combination of sherbet and ice-cream there was nothing spectacular about the ice-cream. There must be a Southside thing. I didn't understand all the hype about the ice-cream. I actually enjoyed the orange sherbet more than the ice-cream. Also, unless they are using recycled material there is an overuse of plastic and styrofoam with the cones. They seem to find it necessary to support the cone with a flimsy plastic holder and if you don't want the cone the container is styrofoam. About a month prior I had the Italian beef. We’re visiting family and we used to live here so of course we had to have some Italian beef sandwiches. I typically have my go tos, Ive had Buona once or twice but long ago so we decided to try it again. Online ordering was fantastic and the curbside text process was heavenly. IMO the beef sandwich was ok. Like I wouldn’t say it was bad because it wasn’t. But just seems pretty average. Nothing really stood out. Its the same Italian Beef you can get at any of the 492 restaurants in a 5 mile radius that also sell them. Others in our party has the Italian Sausage or Combo. The sausage could have been cooked longer, grilled or charred. If the sausage is homemade it didn’t taste like it. Giardinara was good. Ordered a family pack 2+ hours ahead of time in the app, asekd for the beef and buns to be cold as we weren't eating it until later in the day. Showed up at the appointed time for curbside pick up, called and they told me my order would be brought right out..... 20 minutes later still sitting in my car waiting I called again and they finally brought me order out 5 minutes later and everything was hot! Despite the receipt on the bag having the note for it to be cold circled on it!! So later on when we did eat the food and had to reheat it again the beef was OK, but the buns were super hard from being warmed and then getting cold again.
