My friends and I wanted to spend a nice chill evening at Blue Moon thinking it would be a solid place to chill for a bit before they went back home.
We should’ve realized we were going to been stuck in purgatory when it took 20mins for our waiter to get to us. Additionally, the group of four who was sat before us were able to finish their dining experience within a hour. Before we could even lay eyes on our “food.”
Once our order was taken it took what felt like an eternity for our food to be served. One of my friend’s nachos were served cold, my other friend didn’t even give his appetizer, even though 2-3ish tables who came after us got their appetizers before us, and our steak burgers were definitely over priced. You will be spending near $20 for a soggy burger you can make blind, multitasking, and with your arms tied behind your back and less fries than you have fingers and toes.
Not to mention, the only “seasoning” I could taste was the large amounts of salt they placed on the patty. Why is it in less than 20mins of consuming that “burger” am I having a full on workout in the bathroom rearranging my bowels since they’re are fighting for their well beings. If I wanted to cook a “medium rare” (raw) heavily salted patty, I would’ve just ate frozen ground beef and sprinkled salt directly into my mouth for the quarter of the cost.
Our waitress was a good sport and fairly compensated us by voiding the stone cold nachos that were probably made through a microwave and the cheese curds that never appeared even though a middle school student who is inept in both English and math could produce such easy meal.
I would’ve understand if it the place was bustling with life and was packed to the brim. But this place was as packed as a chick fil a on a Sunday. I decided to take a scenic walk throughout the restaurant to the furthest restroom in hopes to return to food. Instead, I spent time walking around a dead restaurant. I was able to diddle daddle around the restaurant, do my natural business, admire the sunset, and return to my table to two disappointed friends.
I feel bad for our server since she did her best but the speed and quality of the kitchen killed the experience. I wasn’t going to tip an establishment which main source of entertainment is staring at the and deciding if the food walking towards us is ours or for the other table that showed after us.
Not to mention, our sever was the only one apologizing for the lack of effort the kitchen was showing. Our food runners were lost like a headless chicken and didn’t know where the food was suppose to go when it came out, and when they finally reached the right table they just sat the food down and walked away. Happily taking their time back to their station as if time was invaluable and grew on trees.
The 360 bar with double sided TVs were dope though I cannot lie.
TL;DR: Come here if sitting in silent as everyone else around you enjoy their food before you and paying top dollar for public school cafeteria food that would ruin your bowel...

It's become a reliable go-to when I'm in the area and looking for a relaxed experience with good food and a wide selection of drinks. The star of the show, as the name suggests, is the extensive tap list. They offer a great variety of Blue Moon beers, of course, but also an impressive rotating selection of local and national craft brews. Whether you're a lager fan or a hophead, you're likely to find something to your liking. The bartenders are generally knowledgeable and happy to offer recommendations. The food menu leans into elevated American pub fare, and they do it well. Their burgers are consistently juicy and flavorful, with a good variety of toppings. I'm also a big fan of their appetizers – the pretzel bites with beer cheese are a must-try, and their wings are also a solid choice. The portions are generous, making it a good value for your money. The atmosphere at Blue Moon Taphouse is typically energetic and fun. It's located right on the water, offering pleasant views, and the open-air seating (weather permitting) is a real plus. It's a great spot to gather with friends, catch a game on one of their many TVs, or just enjoy the vibrant Waterside District vibe. Why not five stars? While consistently good, the service can occasionally be a little slow during peak hours, which is understandable given how busy they get, but can sometimes lead to a bit of a wait for food or drinks. Also, while the food is tasty, it generally sticks to familiar favorites rather than offering many truly innovative or unique dishes. Overall, Blue Moon Taphouse is a strong four-star performer in the Waterside District. It delivers exactly what you'd expect: a wide selection of great beers, satisfying pub food, and a lively, enjoyable atmosphere. It's a fantastic option for a casual outing and a definite recommend if you're in...
Read moreA group of 11 went to celebrate my great nieces college graduation. She graduated summa cum laude! We waited 1 hour before being seated and once seated about 5-7 minutes before being greeted by a waitress and about another 5 minutes before our drink orders were taken. The waitress took 4 orders, walked away from the table without the other orders. I called her back to say more people would like drinks. She went to the other side of the table to take the orders. She returned with water and 1 drink. When she finally returned with the other drinks, we asked to order. We placed orders for appetizers and food. 3 asked for She Crab Soup because we were hungry, 1 ordered a pretzel and 2 ordered wings. 2 soups were served. Both ladies with the soup said it wasn't good, but they were hungry. The food came. I asked for my soup and lemon for my fish. We ate. I asked for my soup and lemon. My sister was still waiting for her meal. The waitress said she would cut more lemon. My cole slaw was on my plate in a small amount. I asked that my mother's cole slaw be served. It came in a bowl. When my sisters meal was delivered, her cole slaw was in a bowl. After my niece and great nephews finished eating, their appetizers were served. When we received the check there was a facility charge. The waitress didn't know what it was for, so I asked for the manager. The manager explained that it was a tax shared by the restaurant and the city for entertainment charges. Really? We couldn't even see the TV. No one ever asked if we wanted more water, more drinks or mame here is your soup and lemon. I asked her to take the soup off of the check. She said would you like it to go. Nope. I don't ever have to eat at this restaurant in life. We've lived in Norfolk for two years. My husband and I have eaten in restaurants that were busier and received better food and service. This was my first time eating at Waterside and my last...
