For a reliable, no-fuss Chinese food fix, Chen's Kitchen on Tidewater Drive is a true neighborhood gem. It has become our go-to spot for takeout, consistently delivering on flavor, speed, and friendly service. The folks running the kitchen clearly take pride in their work, and it shows in the quality of the food. The menu is packed with all the familiar favorites you'd hope for. On our last order, the General Tso's chicken was a standout—perfectly crispy even after the drive home, and coated in a sauce that had just the right balance of sweet and spicy. The fried rice is always fluffy and well-seasoned, and they don't skimp on the fresh vegetables, which is a huge plus. Portions are generous for the price, making it a great value for a family dinner or for having leftovers the next day. The only reason it’s not a perfect five stars is a minor inconsistency with some of the appetizers. While the main dishes are almost always on point, we’ve found that items like the crab rangoon can sometimes lack that fresh-made magic, tasting more like they came from a frozen box. It's a small critique for an otherwise excellent kitchen. Still, when you want dependable and delicious American-Chinese classics served up fast by a friendly crew, Chen's Kitchen is one of the best choices in Norfolk. We’ll definitely be calling them for our next...
Read moreI had ordered the chicken wings and fries. I also ordered general tos chicken with fried rice. On their menu, they say they have fresh chicken. Let me tell you, their chicken doesn't look fresh at all. You all know how chicken is supposed to look fresh, right? Well, theirs looked like a dark color, but it wasn't burnt. Then, when you take the meat off the bone, the bone is black. If you look in the photo section, you will see someone already posted a picture of their fried chicken wings, and mines look just like that photo. Their chicken does not look the same way as it looks on their menu in their restaurant. The fries were ok. The general tso was ok. I expected more meat out of the general tso chicken. The fried rice didn't really taste like fried rice. I recommend everyone to try the vegetables with garlic sauce because so far, that is the only meal I have tasted from them that they make very well. I'm never ordering the general tso or fried chicken wings again. I'm afraid to try...
Read moreFirst off, the food was delicious. I ordered the chicken wings with shrimp fried rice and shrimp egg roll, and. The chicken wings were cooked perfectly, even the fried rice was flavorful and not greasy at all. The service was fast and friendly. The staff greeted me with a smile and had my order ready in under 10 minutes. Everything was packed neatly and still hot when I got home. Portions are generous for the price—definitely great value. I also appreciated how clean and organized the restaurant was, even during the lunch rush. If you’re looking for quick, tasty Chinese food that doesn’t taste like it came from a microwave, Chen’s Garden is a solid choice. I’ll...
