Longboards East Beach Waterfront Dining and Tiki Bar — Restaurant in Norfolk

Unfortunately, I discovered yesterday that Longboards is intentionally scamming people on to-go orders by purposely giving you smaller portions then what you've paid for, then saying you’re wrong when you bring it to their attention.

Yesterday I ordered dinner and ordered a bowl of chili for my wife as a to-go order. My friend across from me also ordered the same bowl of chili. That friend ate half the bowl and put the rest in a 8 oz to-go cup container, filling the entire container up. When I got home, I discovered that they only gave us one 8 oz sized to-go container, nothing more. It was also barely halfway full.

I thought it was a simple mistake (figured they gave me a cup size and not bowl) so I drove back to get it corrected. I was very surprised that most of the staff double-downed and said that what I received was a bowl size. My friend across from me earlier was still there and we even showed the staff that she paid for the same thing, ate half, and still was able to fill up the same 8oz cup container afterwards, so why did I get just one container that wasn't even filled up all the way?

Someone from the kitchen came out upset and told me that to-go orders are "different." I also got told our hands are tied on this, this is a management thing, sorry, etc. Very disappointing to hear.

Thankfully our waitress Sophie appeared and saw the logic behind my explanation and got us another cup, but that was after 4 other staff members were rude about it. We had a large table and she was amazing the entire time!

Unfortunately returning and bringing up my concern was a very unpleasant experience. It doesn't feel great to be short-changed and also be treated like you’re an idiot for even...

New chef? New Manager? New waitress? I don’t know, but service tonight was not so much more than bad, it was HORRIBLE!!! It took our waitress about 10-15 minutes to get our waters to us. Then another 8-10 to take our order. Irritating, but not gripe worthy… A couple at Table 1 was seated: 3-4 young people were seated at Table 2. Then 3 at Table 3. Table 1 got their soups and table 2 got their tacos….helloooo. Okay, easy, quick cooks. Table 4 got their tacos..well shoot, but still a quick cook. I excused myself to the restroom and in that time my dinner mate spoke to the waitress. But when table 3 got their WINGS and LAVA BURGER!! WTH?? NO. That was around an hour. My dinner mate asked if I wanted to leave. When I STILL couldn’t see the waitress, I said yes!! We went and told the hostes the issue…another waitress went looking for ours...still no waitress AND worse, or just as bad, NO MANAGER! And still no food in sight. Even in the time it took to explain what the situation was, we didn’t see either!!! The server that went in search of ours and the hostess apologized. They were just as nice as they could be. We love Longboards and go every couple of months. Now I have an issue i need to work through before I go again. It’s a shame. We’ll be taking our business elsewhere for a while. No great loss for...

May 20, 2025. Kinda weird tonight. Waitress was nice, but for some reason we couldn't sit on warm sunny side of building in nice 70° evening. Assumed it was reserved, but it remained vacant the whole time. So we sat in chilly shade and wind (waitress promised the sun would shine on us when it dipped below rooftop. lmao) ... I ordered the seafood platter, but it only came with fish and shrimp. I don't think it should be called a platter if it's only two items. Also, I'm just now remembering that none of us got cole slaw with our dinners.

Wednesday March 8, 2023.. ugh.. nachos were not good. I'm pretty sure that was cheese wiz (?!) Just a mass of soggyness.

Update: Sept 21. *great service tonight! Very speedy. friendly and genuine. (And very patient with my dear Mom) Thank you Amber.

Older post: A solid, unassuming seafood joint with a good vibe and a great location on the water. Our waiter / bartender / goodness only knows what else, was moving fast but didn't miss a Beat! The ice cold happy hour beers and the Fish and Chips were spot-on. (Well... cod-on in this case. Noooo.. terrible pun..) but seriously, the food was very good, including my bowl of piping hot she- crab soup. ( though granted, I asked for it that way)
