Mi Tierra Mayas — Restaurant in Norfolk

So we visit this place tonight and wow it was one thing after another..First we go in and ask if they have hard tacos. The lady says yes then brings us soft tacos, I then ask if they have hard tacos cause that's what I asked for and I guess her English isn't the best cause she looks confused then says no we don't have any. Then I guess she thought I was saying I want another taco so she reaches and picks up a taco from my friends plate and puts it on mine and we are both like what is she doing that for??

Then the manager comes over and brings me hard tacos. Then after getting my beans and rice replaced(cause I said no cheese and it had cheese) I take 1 bite and there's a giant hair in my rice! Then as if that wasn't bad enough the waitress looks at my friend and said that's your hair! My friend could not believe she accused her of planting a hair in our own food. Then we talk to the manager who gives us a 25% discount.

After all this we go to pay with a Groupon and the manager tells us we can't use a Groupon cause we can't use that with a discount. So I argue and say we only got a discount cause they had a freaking hair in my food and he says ok I'll take it and we can hear him talking in the back not happy about it. Def not going back! I will say it got 3 stars because the steak tacos I had were decent so I can't say the food was bad but the service killed it. The restaurant was also nice looking they just need to work on customer service and the English of the server...

My husband & I came on the 13th & the food & service was great. Food came out pretty quick & the waitress was on point. We thought it was so good that we decided to bring my mom for mothers day....well I felt horrible cause they messed up on not only hers but my step-dads as well. They brought her chicken instead of steak which to some isn't a big deal but she doesn't like chicken so that was the first thing. It took a little while to be sat & took even longer for our order to be taken. The waitress brought us our initial drinks then kind of forgot about our table so we only got ONE refill the entire time we were there & that was after we had to flag her down 3 times. Not the kind of service we expected on mothers day of all days. We then sat there for another 15 minutes with dirty plates on the table, finally we got someone else's attention for the check & a whole other guy came to see how everything was & my mom told him which he seemed apologetic & said okay let me fix this for you....he came back & literally discounted my mom's meal .90 cents off her meal. If that was me working & someone complained about the food & service I would've given them at least 50% or comped their meal. We won't ever be returning here. & it's such a shame cause I hyped it up so much for my parents & we got such a bad experience. I wanted to give a higher review because the food was delicious. There were a few issues, though. The had two kids running the front of house. There was definitely a language barrier issue, I tried to order a margarita and he didn't understand. All I asked for was "a margarita" so nothing complicated. Especially because they have pictures of margaritas everywhere and even a statue of a guy holding a giant one when you walk in. They came back later saying that he couldn't make margaritas (I'm assuming because of his age). I asked if there was anyone there who could make one and they said no. Also, I wanted steak quesadillas (it gave a steak or chicken option) and he didn't understand the words "steak" or "Carne asada" and kept insisting on chicken. Which I ended up just getting chicken.

So the food thst came out was very flavorful, hot and delicious. Everything else was rediculous though. It's as if there was no adult supervision or anyone who spoke a lick of English so it was hard...
