El Rey #2 — Restaurant in Norfolk

THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Do NOT go to this restaurant with children unless you basically want to be shamed, embarrassed, and disrespected, by STAFF and other customers!!! Long read - but IMPORTANT. Shortly after arriving my infant needed a diaper change, well the restroom does not have a changing table or even a counter to change children on… It was raining outside, so I used a changing table pad and cover to cover my child and change him in the chair beside me, as it was my only option because I was not walking him through the rain to change him in the car. While changing him the waitress made a face of disgust while speaking to me and was very rude with her tone, i understand it’s not ideal so after VERY discretely changing him, discarding the diaper, and disinfecting the chair I go back to holding my baby and reading the menu. Unfortunately shortly after this my newborn is hungry and is ready to breastfeed. So I put him under my over sized shirt, COMPLETELY and 100% covered, and start to nurse him.. while a table near us is literally pointing their fingers at me, talking about me, and giving me some awful looks!!! we notice a booth near us is being cleaned and ask to move to the booth for more privacy, we were told this was fine, as we’re moving to the booth we were approached by another waitress and told her party who was seated at another nearby table had also requested to move to the booth and told to move back to our table… she was SO rude and literally bobing her head around while speaking to us… so we simply requested the next available booth, at this time there were no parties waiting to be seated. About 5 minutes pass and another booth is empty and dirty, we request this booth, and are told no that a party has just walked in and requested this booth. At this point I AGAIN explain my discomfort feeding my child due to the pointed fingers and looks from the nearby table, nearly in tears at this point from embarrassment and frustration with the incredibly rude staff and I am told “They want this booth I don’t know what you want me to do about it”. at this point my husband and I decided it was best to leave, and my husband placed a to go order so I could comfortably feed our child in the car. Looking back I regret giving this establishment my money with the to go order, I will not visit this restaurant again nor support this business. I suggest avoiding this restaurant if you have young children who may need care of any kind while in a restaurant!!!! The lack of accommodations for families was frustrating and difficult… but the RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL staff was completely...

Worst experience ever. Got there last night and a waitress came over and asked us for our drink order. We ordered water and Diet Coke. 5 minutes goes by and another waiter comes over and asks us for our drink order and gives us our chips and salsa. We explained to him that the young lady already took our drink order and 5 minutes she returns with our drinks and our watered down queso. She takes our order and 25 minutes later we get our food. My husband ordered the California burrito and it was cold. I ordered the fajita burrito which contained none of the items that the description said would be in it. At this point we have had to flag down other waiters numerous times to get drink refills because our waitress had disappeared and we are her only table while we are watching another waiter run circles around the place. This dude seriously was the waiter to have. Walk up to the bar and explain to the waitress what is wrong with our food, the bartender comes over and asks what’s wrong. He says he will talk to a manager and get it handled ASAP. He also said that due to our waiting so long and the order being incorrect he would get us a discount on our check This is after the waitress basically called us liars and said our orders were correct. At that point we just wanted to pay for the sodas and leave, but the bartender insisted on us staying and said he would put a rush on our food. No lie 4 minutes later our correct food comes out and it’s amazing and delicious. As this is happening the table next to us is having issues because they have onions after the asked for no onions and there food was cold. Do we see a pattern here??? So they pay for their drinks and start leaving when the bartender notices they left their phone and chased them down to politely give it back. So the bartender comes to check on us and we tell him we’re ok. Waitress comes and brings a box so I box my food up. She leaves the dirty plates on the table and brings us the check on an iPad it’s $29.?? So I asked her was that including the discount? She says let me check with the manager. She comes back and says the manager says you don’t get a discount since they remade your food. So we paid and left. The saddest part is we know everyone has off days but the manager should have handled this situation and she didn’t. Not only that but she sent other people to do her dirty work. Kudos to the bartender and the waiter who was not ours for at least trying to make our night better. You two are the only MVPs in that...

We have been here many times and loved it but lately have not been satisfied. We decided to give it a try last evening and wish we hadn't. Placed our order, the waiter heads back near the kitchen and is on his phone for about 10 minutes. He didn't appear to place our order. 10 minutes later a waitress brings chips and a tiny bowl of salsa for 3 of us. We wait 45 yes 45 minutes for our food. The table behind us arrived 20 minutes after us and there are 6 in their party but they receive their food 15 minutes before us. A party of 2 arrives 15 minutes after us and they ate and are leaving before our food comes out. The staff sees us waiting but no one says anything. They are NOT busy. Finally my husbands burrito comes out. 5 minutes later my salad comes out but it's a taco salad. I tell the waiter it's wrong but he argues with me that I have the correct salad. Doesn't do anything about it. 5 minutes later my sons food arrives. The manager who has greeted us several times never checks on us. A waitress comes by and asks how things were and we tell her that my order was wrong but she doesn't correct things. The waiter comes back and we say we want our bill. He says it's $27.00. No receipt so we ask for one. Sure enough he ordered a taco salad not the grilled. I would give half a star but that isn't an option. Never again. Everyone that we have brought here hasn't returned because of the wait time and mistakes. I and 3 family members have worked in their he food industry and know how things work. I don't see this place sticking around much longer. We were hoping we found...
