Tony’s Deli on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk! 🥪🔥 (Yes, where Tony’s Diner used to be!) 📍@tonysdelinorfolk #yummobucko #norfolkeats #757foodie #restaurantreview #norfolkva

Tony’s Deli and Grille has opened in the former location of Tony’s Diner. Only counter service is available, but there is table seating for up to 24 people. They offer a wide selection of sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and non-alcoholic beverages sold by the bottle. The Falafel Wrap was served hot and delicious, very flavorful. The Healthy Hour Egg and Cheese sandwich was rather average. It needs some more ingredients to spice it up, maybe pickles, or sauce. Also both sandwiches tasted like they had been grilled with old cooking oil or burnt bits from previous cooked foods… I would recommend thoroughly cleaning the grill at least once a day, with steam, to remove burnt bits. I hope they add more Middle Eastern foods to the menu. Maybe hummus, pita, tabbouli salad, fattoush salad, grilled eggplant? Also, need Greek dressing if you are selling a Greek salad! Some quiet music would be nice addition too. Otherwise the only sounds heard are the cars driving past.

This was my first visit and I was most pleased with the food. There is no table service. The menu is mounted on the counter where you order so there isn't much time to look it over with people waiting in line. It's very clean and the menu has a wide variety of deli items including Middle Eastern food. There are lots of drink choices. I was really surprised to see Grape Nehi which I hadn't seen in years. It's a great place for quick take out.

I went with my husband about 2ppm last Saturday afternoon. He got a mixed (chicken and lamb) bowl over rice with a side of onion rings and I got a Monte Cristo panini. Ok the not so good first: you have to order at the counter and there were no menus you could take to the table and peruse at your leisure. There was pressure to order quickly so the people in line behind you could place their order. There are no fountain drinks available and there was no plain water in the refrigerator cases, only sparkling water which I do not care for. There was no napkins on any of the tables in the napkin dispensers. It took over 20 minutes to get our food. Now for the good: The service was friendly and the food was very tasty. Even the onion rings, which didn't look great with the breading kind of half falling off, were delicious. My sandwich, while it had no traditional sweet element, was very tasty and BIG! I had to take half home. It was turkey, Buffalo chicken chunks, two kinds of cheese on an Italian style bread which i really liked. Napkins were brought to the table with our order. I did get the impression that the 3 guys that we could see working were working very hard to get all of the orders out to the people as quickly as they could. There was a good sized crowd. We were glad there was a table available. There are only 4 or 5 tables. There didn't seem to be anyone bussing tables or wiping them down between patrons. We just took our tray back up to the counter when we were done. I debated just giving them 4 stars but the guys were working very hard and the food as very good. We will try to go back on a weekday. This place is new and there are still some kinks to be worked out. Overall: 4 1/4...

I spent majority of my childhood going to the original Tony's and was very sad to see that it was closed when I finally came back home. When I saw that a deli was going up in the same classic diner building, I couldn't wait for it to finally open so I could try it. My mother and I went there today and I was impressed. The places was stocked with all kinds of drinks and chips, and the aroma of the food that was being cooked was great. There is lots to choose from on the menu. There is definitely something for everyone; sandwiches of all kinds, appetizers, quesadillas, even smoothies and refreshers. We chose the onion rings, captain special sandwich on a roll, chipotle chicken quesadilla, chopped cheese fries, and a couple of smoothies. The chopped cheese fries were the start of the show, very very delicious. The chicken on the sandwich and quesadilla were very well seasoned and delicious as well. The onion rings were freshly made, and the smoothies were great too! It took a while to get our food, but it is to be expected when everything is made fresh. It was definitely worth the wait. The only thing that I can really say needs improvement is the atmosphere. More seating is definitely needed. There is a lot of empty space and not enough seating for incoming customers to wait for their food or sit down and eat. I am confident that more will be added soon. Thank you for bringing life back to a childhood...

My husband and I came here for breakfast sandwiches right after its grand opening. I'd been watching the building's renovations for over a year during my commute to work so when I saw the open sign one afternoon I knew we had to try it.

Tony's Deli is a great place. It's primarily a takeout place but there are some tables and chairs if you prefer to eat there. Our sandwiches were delicious: crunchy, flavorful bacon; crispy, fluffy potatoes; the perfect amount of melted American cheese, and all served on hearty rolls. They've got other bread options though, if you'd rather not have a roll. While we had breakfast sandwiches the menu does feature a wide variety of sandwiches, smoothies, and chip bags, all of which we'll try in the future. There's also a diverse selection of drinks, chips, and snacks available. The staff is very friendly and they really strive to make everyone feel welcome.

Tony's Deli has the potential to become a go-to local spot for a quick but hearty meal. Since it's a brand-new place, it's finding its rhythm in terms of service, but I'm confident it'll nail it in no time. I know we'll be back, and we're looking forward to seeing how this how restaurant continues to develop and establish itself. Show your support for local business and go to...
