THE GOOD: This place is whimsy and adorable, and their interior decorations have a definite "WOW" factor. That said, decor is not the only thing to consider when reviewing a cafe. As far as the quality of coffee goes- I'm no expert but it tastes fine to me, not overly burnt or too weak. The snow cones are the good flake kind that seems to hold syrup better and has a better texture. They do have a great variety of flavors. THE BAD: I have visited this cafe a few times because my first experience with the service wasn't great and I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt-everybody has bad days. Unfortunately, my subsequent visits did not improve my opinion of the service and left me feeling disappointed that this locally-owned, beautiful cafe has so much lacking. Over the 5 or 6 times I've gone the story has been the same: two to three people in the back, with the front counter service seriously lacking. It seems that they have been given instructions to preference drive-through. This has caused a cascade of issues with incorrect orders, people unsure of where to stand to get their order or to place it, and generally not being able to get the staff's attention when at the counter. One simple, big thing they could do is hang a "order here" and "pick-up here" sign over their counter. My friend had someone cut him in line the first time we were there because he didn't know where to stand; the server didn't notice him looking at her wanting to order, and when the other group stood in the correct place, she walked up and took the entire group's order before him. The chairs, while cute, are uncomfortable and lean back too far to give back support (see photo). It's little things like this that make me suspect the owners have taken a lot of time considering the asthetics of the place and not the customer experience.
CONCLUSION: I love locally-owned cafes in Norman and I want this one to feel like a hidden gem, and it does have a good hard product. However, until they iron out the customer experience and customer service issues, I'm not going to be recommending it to my friends and family. I'm hopeful for this cafe though and will revisit after a few months to see if I can give them a...
Read moreI want to start out by saying I am huge on customer service and currently work in the service industry but I have never experienced anything like this. I have been going to bean stalk for 2 years now and love their coffee and snow cones. However, I have had a few not so great experiences over the last two years but I let it pass because no ones perfect and most of the time my experience is good! Today however, my boyfriend and I drove through to get a large iced latte with half oat milk but in a medium cup BECAUSE the last time he asked for a medium drink the same way there was a little extra space in the top (obviously because he asked for half the oat milk FOR ME). So, after the lady in the drive through told him he couldn’t have a large drink in a medium cup that he is PAYING FOR, she basically offered no solution so we left with no coffee and he left a review. We are not the couple to leave reviews, but he was pretty frustrated. Immediately after he leaves the review the owner of the business calls and again offers no solution and basically tries to explain why our experience is invalid because they tell their employees that all drinks have to go in the size cup of the drink they order. So, basically they don’t allow adequate customer service and we just don't agree with that. After her not listening to basically anything he is trying to say, he hangs up. Immediately after that THE HUSBAND CALLS!!!! Literally harasses my boyfriend and brings up HIS PLACE OF WORK!!! Never once did my boyfriend say where he works so how did they know that and why would they think it was appropriate or professional to bring that up? Very disappointed to say the least. If they would have called and offered a solution to our problem or at least tried to understand our frustration, we would have definitely been open to listening and moved on. This is absolutely crazy and...
Read moreI used to love Beanstalk. It was my go-to for a couple years. The staff was excellent, and the coffee was always good. I've had multiple bad experiences in the past few months. The baristas are sweet but don't seem to know coffee. The coffee quality itself has gone downhill. There is one man who is always rude and no tactfulness. He's an Asian man with spiky hair that I've seen other negative reviews about. If I ask for something then he tells me why I asked for it the wrong way. He's done this every time I've seen him, and it's always in a rude manner. For example, today I asked for a very light splash of cream. My coffee was white, so I asked for less cream. I wasnt upset and asked politely. He came to the window to proceed to tell me how I asked for it incorrectly because they word it differently there. I said I tried to say it in multiple ways to get the point across. Well he just kept arguing about it. I wasn't even upset about until he wouldnt stop talking and talked down to me. I myself have been a batista. I would never treat customers how he has treated me...
