While running errands in Norman today, I stumbled upon Kebabish bites, featuring Indian-Pakistani Cuisine..
It had been some time since I had anything of that flair so I said to myself, "I think I'm going to try that place today." And so I did..
Tucked into the Redbud Plaza, which is off West Main Street and adjacent to Sam's, Kebabish bites is a very quaint and inviting space..
I sampled the Sesame Naan and the Chicken Tikka Masala**
The naan, consisting of a fine flour dough topped with butter and roasted sesame seeds was delivered hot and fresh, light and airy.. The hint of butter, combined with the freshness of the bread and distinct flavor of the sesame seeds made for an outstanding appetizer..
The Chicken Tikka Masala was served piping hot and was accompanied by a serving of Basmati Rice.. It was advertised as being served in a spicy curry sauce, but it wasn't as spicy as I expected..
What I can say is this dish was full of a combination of flavors I haven't experienced in some time.. I enjoyed the chunks of marinated chicken straight from the bowl and drizzled the sauce over the very light and flaky rice..
All in all, I am pleased as punch with this meal choice.. Service was fantastic, the interior of the restaurant was sparkling clean, and the heavyweight flatware was a classy touch..
10 out of 10 recommend and will visit again to sample something else on their menu..
Kebabish bites
**According to Wikipedia, chicken tikka masala is composed of chicken tikka, boneless chunks of chicken marinated in spices and yogurt that are roasted in an oven, served in a creamy sauce. A tomato and coriander sauce is common, but no recipe for chicken tikka masala is standard; a survey found that of 48 different recipes, the only common ingredient was chicken. The sauce usually includes tomatoes (frequently as purée), cream, coconut cream and a masala spice mix. The sauce and chicken pieces may be coloured orange using foodstuffs such as turmeric, paprika, tomato purée or with food dye. Chicken tikka masala is similar to butter chicken, both in the method of creation...
Read moreI spent my birthday eating here today and was not disappointed. The food was better than any Paki/Desi food I've tried before and I've been eating it since 1976 overseas. It was hot, plentiful and the portions large enough that I took most of it home for later.
I used to write food reviews for a newspaper and recognize quality when I see it, especially for a fine dining establishment like this one. For the taste of the food, professional presentation, and portion sizes, the prices here are normal or below. This isn't McDonald's, after all.
There are some leaving comments here who seem to think they shouldn't pay for what they eat. They don't understand that restaurants aren't only buying quality meats and other foods, but they also have to pay employee salaries, utilities, rent on the building, the costs of furniture and decor, and much more. They must set prices high enough to cover their expenditures. Economics 101.
I'm still trying to understand the complaints here because my experience was nothing like that and I paid attention to other diners out of habit. They were complimenting the food and atmosphere.
I also noticed that most of the negative comments on these reviews are from those with Indian or Pakistani names. They should know better than this. It's bullying to gang up and bombard a restaurant with negative reviews as you've done. I read over them and it seems that you were lying, proven by the very detailed information in the manager's reply. Why would you do that? It's a restaurant, not a schoolyard where you act like bullies. This is nonsensical and tacky.
My family and I love the food served here and we will be back. The quality was amazing! It was the best I've eaten and I've had it all over the U.S. and overseas. The atmosphere was relaxing with soft music and watching the fish in the lighted tank. The chairs were surprisingly comfortable and the waiter did a great job. I even checked out their bathroom. I couldn't find anything wrong with the place.
If you're searching for fine dining, this is a great place and I'd recommend...
Read moreFor your own comparison, I am used to the famed misal of India in Norman in terms of flavor, ambience, and service. Their food is flavorful and fresh. I was never let down in any regard and am sad to hear of their closing
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who eats halal so she could recommend me some vegetarian dishes as I am vegetarian. I got the mixed vegetables, naan, samosa, and my mother got the beef roll and beef kebab. She thoroughly enjoyed her food flavor wise. Presentation wise-her barbecued veggies were more burnt on the bottom and raw on the top. The mixed vegetables are a spicy dish. It didn't have many herbs and I personally thought it was lacking in flavor past the spice. The other herbs included would do well with the dish if they were more amped up. The sauce for the samosa was amazing! The naan tasted like typical naan bread. I am moderately dissapointed by the lack of a memorable experience as a whole, but not because anything was truly bad it was just okay. Edit: I forgot that I got the fries with masala. Save your money. The fries were cold in spots like fried ore-ida french fries and the seasoning was not memorable.
Ask a lot more questions than I did and you may have a better experience about suiting...
