Once upon a time, there existed a pizza shop in Ballard known as Zagi's. It was the best pizza shop in the land of Seattle, serving primo slices with awesome toppings and the perfect crust. I would bring friends from out of town to sample the pies who would in turn bring friends from out of town.
Then, one day, tragically I showed up to their spot to find a note on the door. Like a band of pizza making gypsies they had vanished into the ether, leaving the citizens of Seattle dependent on the likes of Pagliacci. Years went by, scars healed but the yearning for quality pie beat strong in my belly. I started searching on the Google and discovered that the owners had opened up shop in Joshua Tree with Pie for the People.
I was planning a trip down that way for non-pizza related business and contacted Ryon confirming it was indeed the Zagi's folks behind the enterprise and sure enough, it was them. He also let me know they were going to be headed back to the Seattle area and opening a Snoqualmie Pass location in the near future.
On my trip to Joshua Tree, my buddy and I ate at least 5 pies (don't judge) and in February on a trip over the pass I decided to check out the pass outpost. I don't know which ancient god they sacrificed baby goats to but the pies are just as I remembered. I've been back a few times since then always trying to indoctrinate new people into the cult. This is some serious pie, folks. Don't let it slip away into the...
Read moreI thought I'd already written a review for Pie For The People, but here we are. PFTP is a prime example of making the most out of what you are given. They have a very limited space, but they make it work by consistently cooking up some of the tastiest pizza pies (and salads, from what my wife tells me) in the state. If you like that West Coast take on NY pizza, then this place is for you: thin crust, huge slices, the occasional greens-rich pizza, and you can either buy the whole pizza or pizza by the slice. You can tell the best pizzerias by how simple they make it seem when it comes to ingredients and recipes, and this place nails that on both fronts: the ingredients are kept pretty minimal on the pizza by the slice, and the dough recipe seems like one that, similar to the pizzeria, makes the most out of its few ingredients. Other places might similarly have a similar lean list of ingredients in their dough, but PFTP has truly mastered making a dough that is thin, crispy, and yet pliable enough to treat like a New York slice. My family has been patronizing PFTP for years, and we find it the perfect place to relax and eat after some time on Snoqualmie Pass. We look forward o future visits to this cozy pizzeria...
Read moreFRESH This is a hidden gem in Snoqualmie Pass. It's located in what is basically a mini-mart for a gas station but without the gas. This place hides the awesomeness of their pizza and calzones.
I saw them pouring flour from one of those huge flour sacks into one of those restaurant kitchen clear plastic food prep buckets. You know what that means? They make the dough from scratch! And not only that, all of the toppings are fresh from scratch! I was there really early in the morning and saw one of the girls making the morning pizzas and chopping the whole vegetables.
I ordered the Go Westo as a calzone. It was one of the best calzones i have had! The menu has a TON of toppings too! And lots of specialty pizzas and calzones. The pizzas are as big as twenty-one inches.
The staff are friendly and very nice. The place is clean and smells good, smells like an actual family owned pizza place. And even all the customers are nice and friendly. Also, the mini-mart has bacon cheeseburgers and burritos ready to eat, if anyone in your group doesn't want pizza.
This is a definite must stop if you're passing through Snoqualmie Pass. And it's right next to the historic...
