My wife and I had to move from our home in NYC to North Carolina for her work. Honestly if it was not for this place I would have gone postal. Living in North Carolina is a fate I would not wish upon my worst enemy, but this is the only NYC-style Chinese food I have had outside of NYC. Food is cheap and cooked with a skill and precision most cloth tablecloth places could only dream of. If you are from NYC this is something you understand. If you live anywhere else you expect something like Panda Express. This place meets all my requirements: A menu on plain white paper, trifolded, no pictures, red and black ink The standard menu that you still spend forever looking over even though you will always get the same thing Food is made fresh to order, proteins are velveted, vegetables are cooked perfectly with the broccoli still being bright green and crisp but cooked
The only complaint that I have about this place is that it tricked me into believing that NYC style Chinese food was a nationwide phenomenon. My wife and I are blessed to no longer live in that wretched state, but while we are temporarily in California, we have learned that even more than pizza and bagels the thing you cannot get here is Chinese food.
Also to that person who thinks she found a roach: that's the end of...
Read moreNew to the area, the food was honestly awful. This review may seem brutal, but reviews are important, so brutal honesty is warranted.
The fried rice did not taste fresh and was mush. The chicken fried rice had a musty taste and the pineapple I requested to be added was wet, slimey & sour.
Sesame chicken was heavily breaded & drowning in overly sweet sauce. I couldn't even find chicken in the smaller pieces. The egg rolls were mush inside, couldnt even distinguish the different types of ingredients. Rangoon was so overcooked that the filling had dried up or leaked out.
My daughter liked her lomein noodles, but everything else went immediately in the bin. I normally would contact management. Perhaps they would have offered a refund, and I would not have accepted a remake. I can't say that I was treated poorly myself, they were fine when order was picked up.
You can tell a lot about an establishment by how they respond to complaints. Almost every negative review here is met with a defensive, argumentative response placing blame on the reviewer. I don't see many apologies or attempts to make...
Read moreI've lived here for 2 years and avoided this place because of the low rating compared to the options in porters neck and surf City. Being too lazy to drive anywhere farther than a few miles this week, I finally gave this place a try. I just kept telling myself how bad could it be? Turns out...not bad at all. I'm convinced the bad reviews are from people who just don't understand this type of food. I grew up in PA, where this type of Chinese takeout is on literally every corner and I was super depressed when I moved to NC and realized that it wasn't really a thing here. I got the vegetable lomein and Hunan chicken. Both were absolutely delicious. Lo mein wasn't dry and had lots of fresh vegetables. The Hunan chicken had a good amount of fresh vegetables, great sauce to meal ratio, and tender chicken. Will definitely be ordering...
