I tried this cafe on 3/15/24. I flew into RDU, and my parents were going to Franklinton to meet a friend. Before we left the area, they told me this cafe was a must-try, so off we went, and I am so glad we did. This may be the best hometown cafe I have tried in NC. The restaurant is very clean. The service is excellent. Both are easy five stars. The food was delicious and another five star. Imagine a typical hometown-type cafe that had a baby with a culinary chef. That is what the food is like. We all ordered Hamburger steak with gravy and onions. I got cabbage and green beans. My mom got cabbage and rice/gravy, and my dad got black eye peas and butter beans. The hamburger steak was very generous, perfectly cooked, and fresh. The grilled onions were perfect. The best part was that the gravy was undoubtedly made from the pan dripping, which is hard to find in a cafe like this. The cabbage was seasoned with meat perfectly. The greens beans, butter beans, and rice were all great. The cornbread is moist and tasty. Another thing that is nice for diet soda fans is they have Diet Pepsi and Diet Mt. Dew. That is unusual. Most of the time, it is Diet Coke or Pepsi, and that is it. This is a must try if you visit or live in the area. Congrats to the chef and the entire staff!

Great little place in Franklinton. Super friendly wait stuff and the owner works the floor. Saw him bussing tables, filling coffee and taking orders. I had the Western omelet with hash browns a biscuit and gravy. Very good lots, of cheese. Stop in, you'll love it. I did!

Food and service was great. Only reason didn’t give 5 stars is because French fries looked and tasted like been refried. Country fried chicken was chewy maybe need to cook some more. Would go back though. Was very good and welcoming.

I have been there many times for lunch and always have a good meal. Service is good for the kind of restaurant it is. Today, Saturday, we had to take our daughter to a lesson and did not get to HomeTown till 10. We put our name on the wait list and waited. No one even bothered to speak to us. It was especially concerning because there is a sign that said that breakfast stopped serving at 10:30, unless management decides otherwise. Well over half the people in the restaurant hadn't gotten their food. It became clear that they were understaffed back in the kitchen as well as up front. With us waiting there and no one bothering to acknowlege we darkened their door, we weren't sure that if and when we got seated, whether we could get breakfast or not. We had to make a choice. We went back to the sign in sheet and marked our names off. We drove out of Franklinton through Youngsville, and into Wake Forest and stopped at The Border Restaurant. They were a mob scene, but every worker in there was working like bees, or as my Daddy always said, "A-holes and elbows". We walked in at 10:35, grabbed a table as soon as it was cleaned off and got reliable, quick service, fresh made to order food, ate, and paid our bill, getting out just after they turned the closed aign around at 11. If we had waited for someone to speak to us at Hometown Cafe, we would have missed breakfast entirely. Now, I am not saying not to go to Hometown Cafe, because I will certainly go again, but don't bother going after 10am if you want breakfast, and don't expect them to speak to you when you come into their door. Southern hospitality is dead at Hometown...

I absolutely loved the food. I loved the servers, all of them worked so well together. The atmosphere was so welcoming. It was a Tuesday night and they were busy with a wait but handling things so well and calm. We didn’t have just one server either, we were asked multiple times if everything was okay and if we needed anything from several different waitresses. It wasn’t our first visit, nor our last. My wife and I try to go at least twice a week. We have gotten to know quite a lot of them and enjoy the time spent there. It’s a home cooked meal away from home. Team work is definitely applied by the majority of them. The only thing that my wife has noticed is that the head server or manager (I’m not sure which) is not very polite. She doesn’t treat all of the girls the same way. She definitely doesn’t treat them with respect. We’ve watched servers come and go from the restaurant and a lot of the ones that have left have confided in my wife that the reason most of them leave is because of “favoritism”. I, myself, have noticed that you usually see the same faces more frequently then others. So I understand where the favoritism comes into play. I have watched the manager treat certain girls way more differently than others and sometimes it’s hard to bite my tongue when I see it. She treats the ones that work so hard poorly and let’s the ones that don’t work so hard get away with everything. Like I said though, the food and servers are amazing. Management may need to be looked at a little better and some changes should be taken into account. One bad seed could kill...

I normally have break fast here. But this visit, no one greeted us, one of the waitress said seat yourself. So we did. We sat there for 20 mins before someone came & gave us a menu (I think she was the manager(?)), & it was lunch menu. So I asked can we get the breakfast menu? She said; no, breakfast is done at 11. I looked at the time & it was 11:04. I didn’t say anything. (However, if we were waited on when we got there we could of had breakfast). We ordered our lunch; my husband had barbecue chicken with coleslaw & green beans, I had special of the day; meatloaf, green beans & mash potatoes with gravy. It took them 42 mins to bring out our food. The wait was eternal, we were starving & I kept apologizing to my husband for bringing him to this place. My meal was ok, but my husbands food was cold. He got so sick, I think they pulled the chicken from the fridge & microwaved it, but didn’t microwave it enough….. I’m so disappointed. I brought my husband here, to have good southern breakfast & we were denied not because we were late, but poor service, . I gave 1⭐️ all around, 2⭐️ On food since mine was ok but the chicken made my husband sick, 1⭐️ For service, 1⭐️ For atmosphere, employees looked tired & unfriendly. Seems they are nice to the locals or regular customers but not...
